A atuação do profissional de saúde adquire determinados contornos em cada abordagem clínica. A fim de valorizar a assistência integral em saúde sob outras perspectivas, além daquela inspirada no modelo biomédico, vem ganhando espaço a Clínica Ampliada. A poesia, enquanto linguagem sensível da vida humana, pode se constituir em estímulo para a reflexão do profissional de saúde sobre a sua prática. Este ensaio se propõe, portanto, a refletir sobre o cuidado em saúde na perspectiva da Clínica Ampliada. Como operador cognitivo que instigue reflexões acerca dessa temática, utiliza-se a poesia “Pneumotórax”, de Manuel Bandeira. Esse poema tem caráter autobiográfico, pois Bandeira fora diagnosticado com tuberculose, incurável naquela época. O profissional de saúde nessa poesia não restringe o sujeito aos sinais e sintomas, mas valoriza outros aspectos da sua existência. Essa reflexão, na área da saúde, responde por Clínica Ampliada, a qual se centra no sujeito, e não na patologia. Assim, o cuidado em saúde pressupõe relações entre os sujeitos e as maneiras como as necessidades e os problemas de saúde serão apreendidos. O poema Pneumotórax suscita esta reflexão-ação por parte do profissional de saúde: tornar-se mediador que instiga o outro a aceitar a doença como companheira no desafiador itinerário humano.
