DESIGN OF SUCKER ROD PUMP USING EXCEL® ABSTRACTThe artificial lift methods are used when the energy from the reservoir is insufficient to lift the fluids to the surface. The artificial lift provides energy to the fluid present in the downhole formation, through the implementation of various equipment. Among the lifting methods, the sucker rod pump is the most widely used in onshore wells. In this method, the rotational movement of a motor located at the surface is converted into reciprocating motion of the rod string. To implement the mechanical pump in an oil well, it is essential to perform the scaling. The design is responsible to determine operating parameters, and to collaborate in the selection of surface and subsurface equipment. This work presents the calculation procedure necessary for the design of a pumping unit. The equations of a conventional design method were used for the calculations. This method has simple equations and it is applicable to shallow or medium wells depth. This work resulted in the preparation of a spreadsheet in Excel® that using the equations contained in the literature, it was able to quickly calculate in a practice way the variables required to design a pumping unit.
