Keratitis treatment has become more complicated due to the emergence of bacterial or fungal pathogens with enhanced antibiotic resistance. The pharmaceutical applications of N-heterocyclic carbene complexes have received remarkable attention due to their antimicrobial properties. In this paper, the new precursor, 3,3′-(p-phenylenedimethylene) bis{1-(2- methyl-allyl)imidazolium} bromide (1a) and its analogous PF6 salt (1b) were synthesized. Furthermore, silver(I) and gold(I) -N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complexes [Ag2LBr2/Au2LBr2; 2a/3a], [(Ag2L2)(PF6)2/(Au2L2)(PF6)2; 2b/3b] were developed from their corresponding ligands. All compounds were screened for their antimicrobial activities against multiple keratitis-associated human eye pathogens, including bacteria and fungi. Complexes 2a and 3a showed highest activity, and the effectiveness of 3a was also studied, focusing eradication of pathogen biofilm. Furthermore, the structures of 1a, 2a and 3b were determined using single crystal X-ray analysis, 2b and 3a were optimized theoretically. The mechanism of action of 3a was evaluated by scanning electron microscopy and docking experiments, suggesting that its target is the cell membrane. In summary, 3a may be helpful in developing antimicrobial therapies in patients suffering from keratitis-associated eye infections caused by multidrug-resistant pathogens.
The presentation of cystic fibrosis (CF) is dependent upon which organs are affected. Severe anaemia is reported to occur rarely in patients with CF. We are presenting a case of 2 months old infant admitted with anaemia, malnutrition, hypoproteinaemia and hypoalbuminaemia, without any pulmonary symptoms at the initial presentation. Abnormal sweat chlorides and low faecal elastase level confirmed the diagnosis of CF. Respiratory symptoms and signs developed later on further follow up.
The amount and distribution of fat and overweight in the human body are critical when determining the risk for different illnesses. Different disorders have a close connection to abnormal fat distribution and overweight. Obesity develops when a person's weight is out of proportion to their body fat. As a result, obesity rates have lately risen in both West Bengal and India. Overeating, a sedentary lifestyle, and a lack of physical exercise are the most evident causes of obesity and overweight. Excess fat and overweight are produced as a consequence, putting people of West Bengal at greater risk for health problems. The study's goals are to understand better and record the prevalence of obesity and overweight in the West Bengal's population
We report a case of sirenomelia baby (Mermaid syndrome) born to a twenty three years old female at 37 weeks of gestation. Sirenomelia is characterized by fusion of the lower limbs with absent kidneys, absent external genitalia and other gastrointestinal defects. It results from the failure of normal vascular supply from the lower aorta in vitro, maternal Diabetes mellitus has been associated with caudal regression syndrome and sirenomelia.
Orissa Cricket Frog Fejervarya orissaensis was first describe by Dutta (1997). Later this species reported from only few pockets of eastern India and recently reported from some countries of South-east Asia. Here, we provide the first occurrence report for this species from State West Bengal, India.
