The goals of this article are to define anti‐Semitism; demonstrate the necessity for accurately labeling anti‐Semitic behavior as such; provide longitudinal evidence of anti‐Semitism and the mistreatment of Jews and the absence of addressing Jewish issues by the counseling profession; prepare a compendium of the preceding—and in so doing, create an awareness of the resulting problem. The author posits that the near universal failure of those committed to multicultural counseling to rail against anti‐Semitism and embrace the notion of Jews as a culturally distinct group poses a serious threat to the delivery of bias‐free counseling and thus the image that the counseling profession presents of itself to other mental health professions and the general public.

In 1964 Carl Rogers demonstrated client-centered therapy on film. Examination of a rarely consulted transcript of the demonstration, Three Approaches to Psychotherapy, revealed that 249 words of dialogue between Gloria and Rogers had been deleted from the film's end. When Rogers' verbal behaviors were classified according to Ivey's microskills model, the results suggest that Rogers was not so much a listening therapist but an interpreting therapist.Three Approaches to Psychotherapy (TAP) (Shostrom, 1965a;1965*) has been the subject of numerous articles, letters, rumors, and even a lawsuit. In TAP, Carl Rogers described clientcentered therapy for six minutes, interviewed Gloria for 30 minutes, and concluded with a five-minute self-evaluation. The film is frequently used to demonstrate client-centered therapy to counselor-trainees, although it is by no means the only vehicle by which trainees learn how Rogers worked. The scholarly journals in professional and scientific fields serve the function of communicating new knowledge and informed discourse on the major issues affecting the field of counseling, and editorial board members (EBMs) serve as gatekeepers of what information will be communicated. The ability of EBMs to make sound judgments directly affects the quality of research and scholarship published. This study analyzed one important EBM qualification, the scholarly productivity of the editorial board members of three major American counseling journals (The Counseling Psychologist [TCP], the Journal of Counseling Psychology [JCP], and the Journal of Counseling and Development [JCD]). An analysis of the productivity rates of editorial board members on these journals was conducted using the PsycINFO database. The results indicated that editorial board members of JCP have significantly more experience publishing than members of TCP and JCD. The differential publication rates of editorial board members suggest that these three journals place different emphasis on scholarly productivity as part of their selection criteria for editorial board membership and may reflect that the three journals have different missions and serve different clientele. R. K. Goodyear (2000) criticized the methodology and results of a study which demonstrated that during the editorial terms of Goodyear (1984–1990) and Claiborn (1990–1993) there was a trend toward publishing articles written by psychologists as opposed to counselors in the Journal of Counseling & Development (JCD). The issue of journal content goes to the heart of professional identity. The authors assert that professional affiliation of contributors matters less than the content of the articles published in JCD (i.e., articles must “speak” the language of counselors and not the language of some other mental health professional).
