Objective: To identify the knowledge and self-care actions taken by nursing undergraduate students of a Federal University of the South of Brazil, against Sexually Transmitted Infections. Method: Exploratory qualitative study, conducted 40 interviews with undergraduate students at the beginning and end of the course. The analysis was thematic, resulting in three categories. Results: Knowledge about the subject is a decisive factor for self-care, and the more knowledge, the greater the prevention. The dissemination of knowledge of students at the end of the course not only influences self-care but also health promotion in the social sphere. Final considerations: Knowledge is important in self-care and caring for others. The dissemination of knowledge becomes evident according to the complexity of the course. Stable relationships may interfere with the use or disuse of condoms in sexual relationships, a misnomer present in today’s society.
Despite the availability of guidelines about the different types of review literature, the identification of the best approach is not always clear for nursing researchers. Therefore, in this article, we provide a comprehensive guide to be used by health care and nursing scholars while choosing among 4 popular types of reviews (narrative, integrative, scoping, and systematic review), including a descriptive discussion, critical analysis, and decision map tree. Although some review methodologies are more rigorous, it would be inaccurate to say that one is preferable over the others. Instead, each methodology is adequate for a certain type of investigation, nursing methodology research, and research paradigm.
Objective: to analyze the best practices thematic in dissertations and theses produced by a research group of history of nursing and health from 1999 to 2017. Method: a documentary socio-historical research with a qualitative approach. Documentary sources were dissertations and theses using content analysis. Results: 30 dissertations and 20 theses were found with compliance with the objective. Best practices refer to care and assistance practices, the history of institutions and organizational entities, and the implementation of nursing practices in each institution. Educational process addresses best practices in support groups, educational institutions and specialty construction. Other studies bring the milestones of the nursing profession, confrontation situations and social reflection regarding vulnerabilities. Final considerations: the studies address best practices in nursing that go through several settings in the attempt to raise problems and promote scientific research to support nursing actions in care.
Introduction:The concepts of movement and mobility are distinct concepts that are often conflated, and the differences are important to patient care. Movement is a change in the place or position of a part of the body or of the whole body. Mobility is derived from movement and is defined as the ability to move with ease. Researchers and clinicians, including nurses, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists who work with adults and in rehabilitation, need to be confident that they are measuring the outcome of interest.Inclusion criteria: This scoping review considered studies that included participants who are adults, aged 19 and older, with any level of ability or disability. The concepts of interest were tools that measured movement or mobility relative to the human body. Studies were considered regardless of country of origin, health care setting, or sociocultural setting.Methods: CINAHL, Health and Psychosocial Instruments, MEDLINE, and Embase were searched in June 2018 and OpenGrey, Dissertation Abstracts International, and Google Scholar were searched in November 2018. The searches were limited to articles in English, and the date range was from the inception of the database to the current date. Data were extracted from the studies using a custom data extraction tool. Once tools were identified for analysis, they were coded using the table format developed by Cieza and colleagues.Results: There were 702 unique tools identified, with 651 of them available to be coded for the ICF. There were 385 ICF codes used when coding the tools. From these codes, the percentage of codes of the defining attributes of movement and mobility that were covered could be calculated, as well as the percentage of tool items that were linked to the antecedents, consequences, or defining attributes of movement or mobility.Conclusions: Although there are many tools that measure only movement or mobility, there are many that measure a mixture of the defining attributes as well as the antecedents and consequences. The tool name alone should not be considered a guarantee of the concept measured, and tool selection should be done with a critical eye. This study provides a starting point from which clinicians and researchers can find tools that measure the concepts of movement and mobility of interest and importance to their patient population.
Objectives: to discuss the curricular reforms adopted for nursing teaching in Brazil, from 1969 to 2019. Methods: historical, qualitative approach using the thematic oral history and document research. 13 interviews were carried out with graduation nursing professors from a federal university in the South of Brazil. The document sources were the political-pedagogical projects of the course and their associated documents. Minayo’s thematic analysis was used. Results: nursing curricula delineates the profile of the professional that must be formed and are reviewed in order to be adapted to social and educational changes, showing the scientific and professional potential of the nurse. Curricular reforms consider the quality of nursing formation. Final Considerations: the structure of the curriculum and the reforms that took place emerged according to the historical, political, epidemiological and social context demanded from the profession, to attend to the demands of society and to the work market.
Objetivo: Identificar as estratégias de cuidado com a pele dos recém-nascidos (RNs) utilizadas nos centros de referência do Método Canguru (MC) do Brasil. Métodos: Estudo exploratório descritivo, de abordagem qualitativa, realizado com 13 enfermeiras atuantes nos diferentes centros de referência do MC no Brasil. Os dados foram coletados por meio de um formulário online. A análise foi feita de forma descritiva, comparando-se as diferentes realidades. Resultados: Elaboraram-se quatro categorias para o cuidado da pele do RN advindas da experiência dos participantes: estratégias adotadas pela equipe relacionadas aos cuidados com a pele do RN; manejo da equipe de saúde em relação ao banho e troca de fralda; cuidados com a fixação de dispositivos em RNs; e estratégias adotadas pela equipe no RN sob fototerapia. Conclusão: As enfermeiras mostraram-se capacitadas e aptas a atuar em seus campos de experiência e vivência. As respostas indicaram que existe preocupação em evitar a utilização de utensílios e materiais nocivos à pele do RN.
Objective To integrate and analyse the literature produced by nurses in terms of care, education and understanding of the reality of transgender (trans) people. Design An integrative review methodology guided by the framework proposed by Whittemore and Knafl. Data sources The search strategy was applied in the following databases: Medline, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science and CINAHL, as well as in Biblioteca Virtual de Saúde, during February and March 2021, with no time frame. Review methods The references found were assessed according to the eligibility criteria established. The information of the articles included was extracted, and a thematic analysis was performed to synthesize the review findings. Results The searches in the databases yielded 2859 articles; 985 after removing duplicates, and 33 articles were included in this review. Three major themes were identified: (1) Understanding the trans universe through the trans perspective; (2) Understanding health and nursing care for trans people; and (3) Trans women as the focus of health and nursing care. The themes evidenced in the lens of nurses and clients the importance of nursing training at all levels to prepare professionals on how to provide culturally competent nursing care for this population and reduce healthcare inequities. Conclusion Nurses must work to provide a space for convergence and enhancement of the rights of trans people and cease to be a verticalized care model. To such end, it is necessary to devise places and possibilities to teach and learn, to construct and reconstruct a culturally competent nursing care. Impact This review highlighted the current knowledge and identified gaps in the understanding of nurses, health professionals and students about the experience lived by trans people, resulting from the lack of training and continuing education of these professionals.
