The phosphino-substituted sulfur diimides S(N-PtBu2)2 (1), tBu;P(NSN)PRR′ (R = R′ - phenyl (2a), cyclohexyl (2b), isopropyl (2c), ethyl (2d); R = phenyl, R′ = tert-butyl (2e)) and tBu2P(NSN)tBu (3) were studied in solution by 1H, 13C and 31P NMR spectroscopy**. The coupling constants 4J(31P31P) of the compounds containing different phosphino groups, 2a-e, depend both on the nature of the solvent and the temperature. The NMR results are interpreted in accord with a rapid Z/E⇄ E/Z interconversion at room temperature and the predominance of a single configurational isomer at low temperatures. There is no indication for the presence of the “symmetrical” configurations, Z/Z or E/E respectively, in solution in appreciable amounts. 15N NMR data are also reported for a series of sulfur diimides.
A New Route to N-Silylated Diaminosulfanes: The Splitting of the Si -Si Bond in Disilanes by Sulfur Diimides Sulfur diimides (R1N)S(NR2) (R1, RZ = tBu, SiMe,; la-c) and disilanes Cl,(R)Si -Si(R)C12 [R = Me (2), C1 (3)] react fast and quantitatively in a 1: 1 ratio to give diaminosulfanes (4, 5) by cleavage of the Si-Si bond. The solid-state structure of tBu-(SiMeC12)N -S -N(SiMe3)SiMeC12 (4b) has been studied both by X-ray crystallography and 29Si-NMR spectroscopy. 5a-c bilden.
from the boron to the sulfur atom. Ethylene is eliminated from compound 6a (not 6b) to give the diaminosulfane derivative 7a. The 2: 1 reaction between 1 and 4 affords an unstable intermediate 8 with a fluxional structure, leading to 9 in which an EtS moiety bridges a borole ring (analogous to 6 but without the additional N -Sn coordination) and a boratole ring (analogous to 5). All compounds are characterized by 'H-, "B-, I3C-, "N-(in part), "Si-and "'Sn-NMR spectra.
