Products that have biostimulant action on forest seedlings, such as those based seaweed Acadian® and hormones, have been used due to their beneficial effect on the physiology and growth of plants, in order to improve the quality of forest seedlings. The present study establishes as research problem: Can doses of Acadian® algae extract and Stimulate® be effective for the initial growth and physiological indices of jatobá seedlings? The variables evaluated were: shoot height (H), stem diameter (SD), increments in stem diameter (?SD) and shoot height (?H), shoot dry mass (SDM, g plant-1), root dry mass (RDM, g plant-1) and total dry mass (TDM, g plant-1), and Dickson quality index, net assimilation rate (EA, g.m-2.day), leaf relative growth rate (RA, g.m-2.day), leaf area ratio (FA, m2.g-1), specific leaf area (SA, cm2.g-1), leaf mass ratio (Fw, g/g-1) as well as nitrogen balance index (NBI) and chlorophylls. The plant growth regulators (Acadian®) at the dose of maximum technical efficiency of 0.28 ml L-1 promotes an increase in stem diameter in Hymenaea courbaril. Acadian® increases chlorophyll a and b contents in Hymenaea courbaril seedlings. The tested doses of Stimulate® do not increase chlorophyll a and b contents in H. courbaril seedlings.

Adenium obesum (Forssk.) Roem. & Schult., widely known as desert rose, has attracted interest for its esthetic characteristics, which are influenced by the process of seedling production. Using two consecutive experiments installed fully at random, the study aimed at assessing the use of different substrates and hydrogel to produce desert rose seedlings in a protected environment. First, eleven substrates were tested, prepared as follows: OrganoAmazon®; PuroHumus®; soil; rice husk in natura; carbonized rice husk, sawdust and cattle manure. Then, three substrates were tested (S1 - OrganoAmazon® + PuroHumus®; S2 - OrganoAmazon® + PuroHumus® + rice husk in natura and S3 - OrganoAmazon® + PuroHumus® + carbonized rice husk) associated to four hydrogel levels: 0 (daily irrigation), 1, 2 and 3 g L−1 (irrigated on alternate days). Growth variables and quality index of seedlings were assessed. Six substrates (all of them without addition of sawdust and where used in mix) were grouped as those the promoted appropriate growth of seedlings, with height, number of leaves, collar diameter, root length and aerial part biomass superior to 6.5 cm; 13; 12 mm; 7.5 cm and 0.45 g, respectively. The substrate composed of OrganoAmazon® + PuroHumus® (1:1 v/v), when irrigated daily, was the one that favored most the production of quality seedlings. The use of hydrogel in substrates with shifts of irrigation on alternate days did not favor the production of desert rose seedlings.
The objective in this study was to determine the nutrient contents in Myrciaria dubia plants in function of five K2O doses (0, 40, 80, 120 and 160 kg ha-1) applied through fertigation. Leaf dry matter (LDM), total dry matter (TDM), and leaf nutrient contents were evaluated. The LDM and TDM were higher in plants subjected to the dose of 160 kg ha-1 of K2O, with 52.44 g and 302.69 g, respectively. Leaf N and K contents were 22.15 and 9.48 g kg-1 in response to 160 kg ha-1 of K2O. The mean P, Ca and S contents were 1.6, 17.89 and 1.61 g kg-1, respectively, and the content of Mg2 + decreased from 5.62 to 2.74 g kg-1 at the dose of 0 and 160 kg ha-1 of K2O, respectively. The B, Mn and Fe contents decreased from 136.5 to 100.0, 346.24 to 248, and from 142.06 to 97.35 mg kg-1 at the dose of 0 and 160 kg ha-1 of K2O, respectively. The mean Cu and Zn contents were 3.81 and 40,54 mg kg-1, respectively, at the K2O doses. The nutrient content determined in the leaves of M. dubia were adequate for the development of the species in the first year of cultivation, presenting the following decreasing order: N> Ca> K> Mg> P = S> Mn> B> Fe > Zn> Cu.
The rational use of water while considering the increases in food production is a great challenge for agriculture currently. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the soil properties of rice paddy areas under different water management systems. For this, the rice cultivars BRS Tropical and IRGA 424 were grown under the following treatments: M1: Intermittent flooding; M2: Intermittent flooding, followed by continuous flooding; M3: Continuous flooding, followed by intermittent flooding; and M4: Continuous flooding for the entire plant cycle. As a control, a non-cultivated area, adjacent to the experimental plots was also evaluated. The variables analyzed were P, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+ and Al3+ contents, pH, soil organic carbon (SOC), total nitrogen (TN) Carbon Stock (C-Stock), nitrogen stock (N-Stock), Cation-exchange capacity (CEC), C/N ratio; CO2 emission, soil microbial biomass carbon (SMB), metabolic coefficient (qMic) and acid phosphatase and urease activities. There was not difference among the different water management systems for P, K+, Mg2+, CEC and C/N ratio. The SMB and the acid phosphatase and urease activities were lower under the different treatments when compared to the control. The CO2 emission under rice paddy system was influenced by the phenological phase of the crop. The variables SOC, C-Stock, SMB, C/N ratio, K+, acid phosphatase and usease activities are those most sensitive attributes observed in the soil under different water management systems during rice cultivation. Water management in the rice paddy system influenced soil by changing its quality.
