PurposeThis paper conceptualizes the broaden-build and self-determination theories that act as the major theoretical framework to investigate the role of psychological detachment and job crafting behaviours in predicting intrinsic motivation through emotional stability. It was hypothesized that emotionally stable employees are better able to detach themselves from work and craft their job according to their preference and abilities, which would inculcate experience and make them intrinsically motivated.Design/methodology/approachThe sample comprised 396 employees, who are employed in different organizations across India. To test the hypotheses, the authors conducted structural equation modelling on SPSS AMOS 22.FindingsThe results highlight the partial mediating role of emotional stability in the association of psychological detachment with intrinsic motivation as well as the fully mediating role between job crating and intrinsic motivation.Research limitations/implicationsThe study is conducted in a non-western collectivist culture and it makes significant contribution to the available literature on intrinsic motivation by proving that psychological detachment and job crafting act as predictor and highlighting the psychological state through emotional stability. The study further adds toward theory building around the construct of emotional stability, as it is still in its infancy.Practical implicationsThis study has depicted that emotionally stable employees who are psychologically detached and have proactive job crafting behaviour can achieve higher intrinsic motivation.Originality/valueOn the basis of the recovery process (i.e. the effort-recovery model), the broaden and build theory and self-determination theory (SDT), this paper demonstrates that emotional stability plays the role of mediator that drives psychological detachment and encourages job crafting, which has the ability to intrinsically motivate the employees.
Purpose of study: This research aims to analyze the mediating effect of corporate social responsibility (CSR) image in the effect of company credibility dimensions (trustworthiness and expertise) on participation intention, in the cause–brand alliance (CBA) context. Methodology: The sample design which is used is purposive sampling with the sample criteria as the stakeholders of the University of Lampung, Indonesia. Data were collected by direct interview. Multiple regression analysis is used to test the hypotheses with 160 university’s stakeholders, using purposive sampling. Result: The results show that trustworthiness and expertise have a directly positive significant effect on CSR image. However, expertise statistically has a greater positive significant effect on consumer participation intention toward the CBA than trustworthiness. This finding is contrary to the contrast-effect theoretical framework (Dean, 2003) and balance theory (Heider, 1958). Newly finding is that CSR image considered a mediating role in the effect of trustworthiness and expertise credibility on participation intention. Implications: This implies that in the context of CBA, the company’s trustworthiness and expertise can be a more useful tool to trigger the positive CSR image in encouraging the stakeholders’ perception to buy the products and services or brand of the company implementing CSR, because CBA practices are considered as a genuine social cause, not as a promotion tool. Novelty/Originality of this study: In this study, the collected data uses the cross-sectional design and the CBA context uses CBA practices implemented by agriculture, education service, beverage industry, and a bank stated-owned enterprise.
Background:The symptoms of menopause have a negative impact on quality of life, especially in women transitioning to menopause and earlier transitions. This study was conducted with the objective of assessing the effect of obesity on the severity of menopausal symptoms and the clustering of symptoms in postmenopausal women in India.Methodology:The Menopausal Rating Scale (MRS) was used to assess the severity of menopausal symptoms of postmenopausal women of Chennai, visiting Saveetha Medical College, Chennai, India. This cross-sectional study was conducted from August to November 2013 in Chennai, India. Sociodemographic characteristics, anthropometric measurements, blood pressure level, menopausal history, personal health history, and hormonal disorder issues were investigated.Results:The results have shown that 24% of the participants had complaint of mild to severe hot flushes, half of them had reported heart ailments (49%; n = 74), and disturbed sleep (48%; n = 72). The proportion of overweight/obese participants was higher in married (64%) than widows (41%), and this difference was found statistically significant (P = 0.005). There were no significant differences in MRS scores of obese and nonobese postmenopausal participants.Conclusion:There is a need of developing interactive, user friendly, technology based education module for addressing the chronic ailments of postmenopausal women.
In early 2020, the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a global emergency. This pandemic has affected higher education, especially the world of business education and professional programmes, beyond imagination. This study/project examines an innovative teaching and learning approach, Lean methodology, and its application to business education. Although Lean Thinking originated in the automobile industry several years ago, research on its application and sustainability at academic institutions, especially in the teaching and learning process, has been extremely limited. Recent research demonstrates that this approach has been successfully implemented in healthcare and health sciences education. This project takes a step forward and identifies how a similar approach can be applied to business education in post-pandemic education. The project concludes with practical tips that higher education institutions can use as planning for post-pandemic begins.
Digital stores are spreading their tentacles slowly in Vietnam, the most upcoming economy of the ASEAN region, so it is a relevant and contemporary study to know the perceptual thought and socioeconomic profiles of customers. Since there is a lack of independent study in this area, the relationships can be researched and presented. The context of digitization and consumerism is slowly growing in the Vietnamese market. So, this article studies the factors influencing online consumer perception and purchase orientation for digital stores operating in Vietnam through apps and websites. This study is a bi-phase study. In the first phase, constructs, such as digital store images, digital customer loyalty, satisfaction and digital socio-economic profiles of consumers, are examined. In the second part, the empirical analysis is carried by the authors. The study is done by SPSS 22, R studio, and R-cran software packages. Exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, very simple structure (VSS) criterion, and parallel analysis are used for the study. Customers have an almost balanced view of shifting to other stores and the image of the digital store, which makes the price have a substantial effect on the digital store image. The education and empathetic nature of employees also affect the way customers complain, and the way delivery is handled, which is Factor 1 for the model. Factor 2 is promotion, pricing, billing ease, or proper billing, which influence the purchasing power of the customer. So, the service provider or digital store has to be cautious of a specific socioeconomic variable. Digital store image is significantly about complaint handling methods, promotional aspects, and image-driven pricing. So the digital store has to be more careful about these factors. So, from the model, it can be concluded that digital consumers’ socioeconomic profiles, the price of the product, and the digital store’s image appear to have a significant relationship. A consumer pattern is having the education and the period of purchase, which explains the relationship better. The level of education and the period of purchase from a digital store also have significant differences among each other. Thus, the digital service provider should consider the level of education and the period of continuous purchase from a digital store as the criteria for evaluating digital customer loyalty. The price of the product seems to be significant as a variable too. The digital store image appears to be substantial for grievances, promotion, and image driven by price. So this considerable relationship has to be taken into consideration by the service provider while focusing on making decisions for customer loyalty.
