Artistas y artesanos en el Nuevo Reino de Granada, 1600-1800A pesar de los avances investigativos de la historia social colombiana, los estudios sobre artesanos en los siglos XVII y XVIII son escasos 1 . Empero, la actividad artesanal en el Nuevo Reino fue alta y variada. La prolífica presencia de los artesanos en las ciudades durante el siglo XVII deja ver la incidencia que tuvo la circulación de ideas y objetos en las sociedades del Antiguo Régimen y la impronta que los artesanos le imprimieron a la sociedad con el trabajo que realizaban. Desde principios del siglo XVII, cientos de alarifes, carpinteros, plateros, sastres, herreros, talabarteros, zapateros, pintores y barberos, le fueron cambiando el rostro y la vida a los espacios urbanos y rurales; con su trabajo, embellecían los templos, las calles, las casas y los cuerpos de vecinos y transeúntes de la más variada condición y procedencia 2 .
