HIV-SN is more common among pre-HAART patients with low level of hemoglobin, serum albumin, BMI, and CD4 T-cell count. Hence, it is found that neuropathy can be prevented by improving immune as well as nutritional status of HIV infected patients. So, BPNS, being a simple diagnostic tool should therefore be routinely applied to screen the neuropathy, to minimize the negative impact it has on the quality of life in patients with HIV infection.
Objective: The present study was conducted aiming to assess endothelial function in sickle cell disease (SS), sickle cell trait(SA) and compare to endothelial dysfunction between sickle cell anemia (SS), sickle cell trait (SA) cases and control (AA) patients to evaluate correlation of endothelial dysfunction. Methods: The study population comprised of, total 25 cases having sickle cell disease and sickle cell trait and 25 age and sex matched normal control. Endothelial dysfunction as assessed by brachial artery flow mediated dilatation by colour Doppler (non-invasive method)by using Siemens Sonoline 500. Statistical analysis was performed using Software Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20, and P value of less than 0.05 was considered as statistically significant at 95% confidence intervals. Results: Significant difference were observed in FMD (flow mediated vasodilatation) in case and control group (p<0.05), also significant difference was demonstrated between AS and SS group. Conclusion: The percentage of flow mediated dilatation of vessel is a marker of endothelial function was significantly lower in cases as compared to controls and was also lower in AS & SS when compared to control group & significantly lower in SS group than AS group. Background: Ovarian steroidogenesis requires gonadotropin stimulation, Luteinizing Hormone (LH) is a key factor in the hyperandrogenaemia of the polycystic ovary syndrome. Progesterone is the primary regulator of Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH) pulse frequency; however, in the polycystic ovary syndrome, the GnRH pulse generator is relatively resistant to the negative feedback effects of progesterone. Study aims to evaluate the association of Anti-mullerian hormone with serum androgen and gonadotropin level in adolescents and young women of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).Methods: This was a single centre observational Cross-sectional study carried out in the department of Endocrinology and metabolism, Medical College, Kolkata from March 2017 to January 2019. Total number of study subjects were 207 out of which 138 were cases. Results: The AMH had strong positive correlation with serum testosterone in both case and control groups (r 0.542, p<0.001 and r 0.57, p<0.001) respectively .After the adjustment of age and BMI , the AMH moderately positive but extremely significant correlation with serum testosterone as compare to control. Conclusions: Hyperandrogenaemia and higher ratio of LH and FSH associated with higher serum AMH level is associated with the higher serum AMH in polycystic ovarian syndrome.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
