Ordered differential display PCR was used to identify differentially expressed genes in rat dorsal root ganglia at 7 days following chronic constriction injury (CCI) of the sciatic nerve. Fourteen differentially displayed cDNA bands were isolated, cloned and verified by RT-PCR. The four mRNAs were increased, which included mRNAs encoding heat shock protein 27, fatty acid binding protein, apolipoprotein D and one novel gene. Six down-regulated clones were microtubule-associated protein 1B, protein tyrosine phosphatase alpha, Kv1.2 channel, myelin protein SR13, medium-sized neurofilament protein, and one novel gene. Our results show that many differentially regulated genes after CCI may play a role in nerve degeneration and/or regeneration and provide a molecular framework for understanding the peripheral mechanism underlying neuropathic pain.

The secretion of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP-9) is stimulated by the glucocorticoid-induced tumor necrosis factor receptor (GITR), a new tumor necrosis factor receptor (TNFR) family, in murine macrophages via an activation of protein kinase C (PKC)delta and phospholipase D (PLD). Secretions of MMP-9 are stimulated by the phosphatidic acid (PA), a product of PLD activity and an inhibition of PA production by a 1-propanol inhibited secretion of MMP-9 by soluble GITR (sGITR). MMP-9 is not secreted by diacylglycerol (DAG) and an inhibitor of PA phosphatase has no effect on the secretion induced by sGITR, indicating that PA is responsible for MMP-9 secretion in murine macrophages. Our data indicates that sGITR-induced activation of PKCdelta and PLD increases MMP-9 secretions in macrophages.

In September 2018, an outbreak of Listeriosis cases in Korea was traced to food involved, using retrospective cohort studies and PFGE analyses. This study aimed to describe the first L.monocytogenes outbreak identified in Korea. We confirmed the presence of Serovar (4C) and virulence genes, and evaluated the genetic correlation between isolates by restriction digestion patterns of ApaI and AscI. Based on the epidemiological association, it is presumed that the seasoned crab meat with bean sprouts are contaminated by cross contamination during the bean sprouts washing (relative risk was 1.24; p-value: 0.0021 and they possessed virulence genes. Therefore, active laboratory surveillance is necessary to recognize the risk of L. monocytogenes in Korea.
