There are 12.5 million people with disabilities in Turkey according to the research conducted in recent years. It is an unquestionable fact that attitudes and behaviors towards people with disabilities. Their lives and harmony with the society describe social interactions. The awareness and attitudes of health professionals towards people with disabilities may affect the quality of service for people with disabilities. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of occupational therapy student’s mindfulness and the well-being on the attitude towards people with disabilities. The study was conducted with 134 students at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Occupational Therapy. The Attitudes Towards Disabled People Scale, Mindful Attention Awareness Scale, Adolescent Subjective Well Being Scale were the used scales. According to the regression analysis, the student’s mindfulness and well-being affected their attitudes towards people with disabilities.Mindfulness was related with positive emotions and life satisfaction according to sub-scale of Adolescent Subjective Well Being Scale while attitude was related with satisfaction in relationships with precious people of Adolescent Subjective Well Being Scale (p<0.05). As a result, it was found that the occupational therapy students at different classes have positive attitudes towards people with disabilities. Increasing consciousness mindfulness and the well-being is important for reducing negative attitudes and behaviors. Therefore, the relationship between mindful attention, well-being and attitudes towards disabilities need to be examined with details in the non-health profession’s departments. Those results are compared with the health professionals’ results.

Anne-baba tutumlarının değerlendirilmesinde Anne-Baba Tutum Ölçeği; duygu durumunun düzenlenmesini değerlendirilmesinde Ergenler için Duygu Düzenleme Ölçeği; iyilik halinin değerlendirilmesinde ise Beş Faktörlü İyilik Hali Ölçeği Ergen Formu kullanıldı. Ergenlerde anne-baba tutumu, duygu düzenleme biç`mler` ve `y`l`k haller` arasındak` `l`şk` Spearman korelasyon katsayısı hesaplanarak `ncelend`. Anlamlılık düzey` 0,05 olarak kabul ed`ld`. Sonuçlar: Demokratik tutum gösteren anne-babaların çocuklarında dışsal işlevsel olmayan duygu düzenleme ile yaşamın kontrolü ve anlamlandırılması ve başa çıkma ve problem çözme arasında orta derecede negatif yönde (sırasıyla r =-0,479, p<0,05); r =-0,433, p<0,05); ihmalkar tutum gösteren anne-babaların çocuklarında içsel işlevsel olmayan duygu düzenleme ile sosyal yaşam arasında orta derecede pozitif yönde (r =0,484, p<0,05); otoriter tutum gösteren anne-babaların çocuklarında dışsal işlevsel olmayan duygu düzenleme ile olumlu kendilik algısı arasında orta derecede negatif yönde (r=-0,550, p<0,01) korelasyon tespit edildi. Tartışma: Ergenlerde anne baba tutumu, duygu düzenleme ve iyilik hali arasında ilişki tespit edildi. Bu nedenle, ergenlerle çalışan ergoterapistlerin anne baba tutumu ile ilgili yaklaşımları literatür ışığında tartışılmış ve önerilerde bulunulmuştur.

Genç bireylerin fiziksel ve ruhsal bütünlüğünü olumlu yönde geliştirmesine katkı sağlayan fiziksel aktivitenin serbest zaman aktiviteleri içinde yer alması ile ilgili farkındalığın artması önemlidir. Bu nedenle bu araştırmanın amacı, fiziksel aktivite yapan ve yapmayan üniversite öğrencilerinin serbest zaman ile ilişkili tutum, yönetim ve tatminlerinin incelenmesidir. Araştırmanın örneklemini 2017-2018 öğretim yılı güz ve bahar döneminde Hacettepe Üniversitesi Sağlık Bilimleri Fakültesi Ergoterapi Bölümünde okuyan öğrenciler oluşturdu. Öğrenciler, haftada en az iki günlük serbest zaman aktivitesini üniversitenin sağladığı bir imkânla fiziksel aktivite yaparak geçirenler (n=76) ve geçirmeyenler (n=62) olarak iki gruba ayrıldı. Çalışmada serbest zaman değerlendirme anketi, 18-22 yaş yetişkinlerde fiziksel aktivite içeren oyunları oynamaya yönelik tutumları ölçeği ve boş zaman yönetim ölçeği kullanıldı. Verilerin analizinde bağımsız örneklem t testi kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre öğrencilerin tutumları ve boş zaman aktivitelerinde memnuniyet düzeyleri arasında anlamlı fark bulunmuştur (p<0,05); Bununla birlikte, öğrencilerin boş zaman aktiviteleri üzerine yönetiminde anlamlı bir fark görülmemiştir (p> 0,05). Bu nedenle zihinsel ve fiziksel sağlık ve refahın sürdürülmesinde önemli bir yere sahip fiziksel aktivitelerin yeniden yapılandırılması ile ilgili üniversite yönetimlerinin önlem almasının önemli olduğu düşünülmektedir.

Occupational therapy is a health profession that uses the purposeful activities to achieve multiple and complex rehabilitation aims. The main goals of the occupational therapy are to support the reintegration of individuals in daily living skills as well as to increase their independence and autonomy. Interventions of occupational therapists have primarily focused on self-care, productivity, and leisure time activities. Since the life skills includes a wide range of abilities that enable a person to perform personal care and more complicated tasks such as traveling, shopping, community participation etc., occupational therapists provide life skills training programs to meet the needs of the clients. This chapter aims to contribute to the current understanding and practices of life skills from an occupational therapy perspective. The chapter starts with a brief discussion of the importance of life skills in occupational therapy. After this introduction, the first part takes a look at the definition of life skills and identifies core components of life skills. The second part describes assessment and interventions of life skills. The third one gives an overview about school life skills programs for children and adolescents. Finally, the last part explains some life skills programs in people with disadvantages.

Bu çalışmanın amacı üniversite öğrencilerinde cep telefonu kullanımı ile kimlik gelişimi arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesidir. Gereç ve Yöntem: Ergoterapi Bölümünde okuyan, çalışmaya katılmaya gönüllü olan 135 öğrenci (yaş ortalaması 20,9 ± 2,67, % 60,3'ü kadındı) çalışmaya alınmıştır. Çalışmada Kimlik Gelişiminin Boyutları Ölçeği ve Cep Telefonu Problemli Kullanım Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Sonuçlar: Cep Telefonu Problemli Kullanım Ölçeğinin sosyal ilişki alt ölçeği ile Kimlik Gelişiminin Boyutları ölçeğinin içsel yatırımda bulunma, içsel yatırımla özdeşleşme ve seçeneklerin saplantılı araştırılması alt ölçekleri arasında bir ilişki bulunmuştur (p<0,05). Kimlik Gelişiminin Boyutları ölçeğinin seçeneklerin derinlemesine araştırılması alt ölçeği ile Cep Telefonu Problemli Kullanım Ölçeğinin toplam puanı ile bağımlılık alt ölçeği arasında doğru orantılı anlamlı bir ilişki bulunmuştur (p<0,05). Tartışma: Bulgulara göre, içsel yatırım yapabilme becerileri yüksek öğrenime giden öğrencilerin sosyal ilişkilerinin daha iyi olduğu görülmektedir. Kimlik gelişimi için seçeneklerini derinlemesine araştıramayan öğrencilerin telefona bağımlılığı ve telefonu problemli kullandıkları tespit edilmiştir. Böylece başarılı toplumunun temeli başarılı kimlik edinmiş genç nesiller yetiştirmekse bunun için önce örgün eğitimde gerekli girişimler sağlanmalı sonrada çağımızın sorunu olan cep telefonunun yanlış kullanımı ile ilgili gerekli düzenlemelerin toplumsal bazda yapılarak önüne geçilmesi sağlanmalıdır.

In this chapter, occupational therapists from leading specialists exploring ways they can collaborate with assistive technology (AT) users to help them get the most out of these devices. By gratefully acknowledging the advances in technology of the last century, people with disabilities can live independent lives, contribute to their communities, attend regular schools, and work in a career. This technological development means medically switching to a social model of technology presentation, where users are as much focused on social reintegration as their physical abilities. This change means that field workers will not be able to focus on delivering technology on their own but will have to go one step further and partner with consumers and communities to ensure that the aids are used in the best possible way.

Amaç: Türkiye'de otizmin görülme sıklığı artmaktadır. Görülme sıklığındaki artış, otizm konusundaki farkındalığı ve otizmli bireylere yönelik hizmetleri önemli bir hale getirmektedir. Farkındalığın artırılması ve otizmli bireylere yönelik hizmetlerin geliştirilebilmesi için medyanın kullanımı önemlidir. Medya, toplumun bir konudaki farkındalığını geliştirmede ve devlet politikası ile topluma sunulan hizmetlerin tanıtımında etkin bir role sahiptir. Bu nedenle, bu çalışmada Otizm Spektrum Bozukluğu Olan Bireylere Yönelik Ulusal Eylem Planı'ndan sonraki süreçte otizm ile ilgili haber içeriklerinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışma kapsamında günlük olarak yayınlanan, yüksek satış rakamına sahip ve farklı görüşleri temsil ettiğine inanılan üç gazete incelendi. 3 Aralık 2016-12 Şubat 2018 tarihleri arasında "otizm", "otistik" ve "otizmli" anahtar kelimeleri ile tarama yapıldı. Bu haberlerin incelenmesinde içerik analizi uygulandı. Kategorileştirme aşamasında öncelikle haber başlıkları, spotları ve haber metinleri bir arada değerlendirildi. Değerlendirme sonucunda, haberler kategorilere ayrıldı. Sonuçlar: Otizmle ilgili çıkan toplam haber sayısının 45 olduğu tespit edildi. Değerlendirme sonucunda, eğitim, bilinçlendirme/farkındalık, sosyal katılım, spor ve sanat ve sağlık başlıkları elde edildi. Tartışma: Otizmle ile ilgili haberlerin az olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Otizm ile ilgili toplumda farkındalık oluşturulması için medyanın yeteri kadar kullanılmadığı düşünülmektedir. Haber sayısındaki azlığın sebebi sonraki çalışmalarda incelenebilir.

Purpose: Cerebral palsy (CP) refers to a group of disorders; occurring as a result of a non-progressive impairment of the developing central nervous system. Participation of individuals with CP could be influenced by environmental factors. Therefore, the aim of our study is to identify how universally designed school environment effects the participation level of the individuals with CP. Material and Methods: The study was done in a state school where individuals with CP are educated. Semi-structured interviews with the student and the family were done to identify the barriers for school participation. Gross motor skills of individuals with CP were evaluated by The Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS), hand functions were evaluated by Manual Ability Classification System (MACS) and communication skills were evaluated by Communication Function Classification System (CFCS). Data were analyzed by SPSS 21 and semi-structured interviews were analyzed with MAXQDA. Results: 28 individuals with CP (m:16, f:12) between15-20 years (mean 16.9 ± 1.3 years) were included in the study. Participation problems during elevator and toilet use and architectural layout of recreational areas were indicated as causes of participation problems (p<0.05). Discussion: In addition to designing the environment in accordance with the principles of universal design, development of an interdisciplinary teamwork in which occupational therapists and architects will collaborate is important to ensure the full participation of individuals with disabilities in schools.
