As newer technology allows easier collection and display of increasingly complex 3D data, the need for more userfriendly interfaces to navigate and interact with such data grows. At the same time, there has been a jump in the capabilities and availability of natural interaction hardware. Anticipating the convergence of these two trends, this paper argues from interaction axioms to derive AeroSpaceour interaction technique for 7DoF spatial navigation that elegantly ties together the principles of direct, simultaneous and bimanual interaction into a small set of implementation requirements. We then show how we implemented these requirements with a simple glove design and our current software prototype built around NASA's World Wind SDK.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
