A B S T R A C T In recent years the Una river basin , located in the state of Pernambuco, has suffered disasters caused by floods . In the years 2000 , 2005 and most recently in 2010 and 2011 , several cities in South Woods recorded rains that were considered the largest in history , being one of the possible consequences of climate change or just variability of the local climate , which end increasing number and intensity of these extreme events . The objective of this study is to evaluate the trend in the rates of detection of climate -dependent changes of rainfall , defined by the World Meteorological Organization ( WMO ) . We used daily data from 14 rainfall stations in the ancient network of rainfall stations SUDENE , APAC and ITEP , which presented information with reliable quality rainfall with historical series of approximately 43 to 49 consecutive years , from 1963 until 2006 used to few municipalities in the basin, and from 1963 to 2012 for others. By using RClimdex software was used to calculate the indices and their climatic trends. Negative trends PRCPTOT positive index and index DCU were diagnosed. In the Una basin, there is the town of Barreiros, located in the eastern sector, which saw positive trends R50mm, Rx1day and Rx5day indexes, evidenced increased intense rainfall (over 50 mm ) in 24 hours on five consecutive days, indicating that the eastern sector of the Una basin is subject to more extreme rainfall events and hence the periods of flooding by the illegal occupation and the misuse of land.
