Este trabajo es un avance de la investigación que venimos realizando donde buscamos describir las prácticas de consumo y producción cultural cotidianas que los jóvenes realizan en los nuevos medios. La selección de este universo responde a que las prácticas transmediales se sitúan actualmente en las actividades sociales y de entretenimiento de los jóvenes con mayor preeminencia que en otras edades.Lo que aquí desarrollamos es un conjunto de conceptos que nos permiten enfocar el problema para luego avanzar en el trabajo de campo. Hablar de prácticas implica abordar otros conceptos estrechamente vinculados. El uso social de tecnología, es decir, la invención de nuevas prácticas para realizar cualquier tipo de trabajo, está íntimamente relacionado con el consumo, entendido como el conjunto de procesos sociales de apropiación de productos materiales y simbólicos. Se generan hábitus (Bourdieu, 1988) que, a su vez, promueven gustos, esquemas operacionales, maneras de hacer, de pensar; un estilo de inventiva técnica. Estamos pasando de un modelo de comunicación uno-a-muchos, característico de la comunicación masiva, al esquema de muchos-a-muchos que hoy tiene lugar en los nuevos medios; y en el tipo de contenidos que se distribuyen en ellos. Para Shirky (2008), la producción de nuevos tipos de contenido que hoy realizan los jóvenes es posible gracias al proceso que denomina amateurización masiva, ya que ahora no necesitan ser editores profesionales para poder publicar. Es decir, un conjunto de capacidades expresivas se trasladaron desde un grupo de profesionales para incorporarse a la sociedad de manera ubicua, disponible para muchas audiencias/usuarios que proponen y exploran nuevos modelos de comunicación y coordinación sin la necesidad de pedir permiso antes de hacerlo.
A partir de nuestra experiencia cotidiana como docentes de la Licenciatura en Comunicación Social y de nuestros recorridos de investigación, en este artículo nos centraremos particularmente en la reflexión sobre los consumos de información en la actual ecología de medios, en este contexto inédito de pandemia. El artículo también tiene por finalidad asumir el desafío de imaginar cómo enseñar/conocer y actuar en estos nuevos escenarios mediados por las plataformas. En esta sociedad de plataformas, con múltiples pantallas que pasaron a ocupar el centro de las prácticas de conocer, las operaciones de creación de sentido asumen modos particulares. Lo social –el contexto– siempre interviene en la dimensión cognitiva. Ambos, a su vez, se van influenciando constantemente en una relación dialéctica que por naturaleza es dinámica.
