Introdução: A detecção e o manejo das infecções sexualmente transmissíveis, como sífilis, vírus da imunodeficiência humana, hepatites B e C, são, ainda hoje, um desafio para as instituições de saúde no âmbito do Sistema Único de Saúde, tendo em vista a existência de diversos agentes etiológicos, os quais podem causar desde danos mínimos até mais graves, como o óbito e as altas taxas de diagnóstico no país. Dentro desse contexto, tomando- -se como base revisão bibliográfica, é importante destacar que os jovens brasileiros possuem conhecimento insuficiente sobre o tema, havendo ainda uma grande prevalência de infecções sexualmente transmissíveis entre eles. Objetivo: Objetiva-se, com este projeto, avaliar o conhecimento dos jovens do município em questão sobre educação sexual, possibilitando, a partir dos dados obtidos, o planejamento de ações futuras que visem à prevenção e à promoção de saúde no que tange à vida sexual do jovem. Tem-se como objetivo também complementar o conhecimento dos pesquisadores das áreas de epidemiologia, medicina preventiva e bioestatística, a fim de estruturarem discussões a respeito do tema com a elaboração de relatórios técnicos e científicos, despertando o interesse pela pesquisa. Métodos: O projeto será colocado em prática por meio de um estudo do tipo descritivo, transversal e de abordagem quantitativa, que será realizado em um município do interior de Minas Gerais, com população estimada de 114.679 habitantes pelo Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística, com 9.037 estudantes do ensino médio. Destaca-se que, em razão da pandemia de COVID-19, optou-se por realizar a coleta de dados por meio de formulários on-line. Resultados: Ao término da pesquisa, espera-se traçar um perfil relacionado ao conhecimento que a população estudada possui acerca de infecções sexualmente transmissíveis a fim de conhecê-la melhor, direcionando estratégias de acordo com suas necessidades. Conclusão: Conhecer a população-alvo é a melhor forma de estabelecer medidas que aperfeiçoem a educação sexual, bem como planos de prevenção, diagnóstico e tratamento de infecções sexualmente transmissíveis.
