Les espaces de mobilité des migrantes burkinabè, entre le Burkina Faso et la Côte d’Ivoire, ne se limitent pas seulement aux lieux et espaces liés à la résidence familiale. Cet article, qui s’appuie sur des données collectées au Burkina Faso et en Côte d’Ivoire, questionne, à travers les retours au pays d’origine, le rapport à la mobilité des femmes burkinabè issues de l’émigration vers la Côte d’Ivoire. Il postule que les retours au Burkina Faso des femmes burkinabè en provenance de Côte d’Ivoire vus comme stratégie familiale ne sauraient suffire pour expliquer leurs rapports à l’espace. Elles pratiquent des mobilités plurielles, lesquelles sont des réponses à des situations de précarité de leur existence mais aussi à un désir et une nécessité d’autonomie matérielle et financière.
Les routes migratoires ne se résument pas à des espaces très dangereux pour les migrants, contrairement à ce que tendent à mettre en avant nombre de travaux d’experts internationaux et de chercheurs. Elles sont aussi une ressource pour les migrants qui, faisant sans cesse preuve de résilience, tirent profit des opportunités qui se présentent à eux au cours des trajets entre leurs pays de départ et d’arrivée. Ces observations découlent d’une recherche qualitative, menée entre 2011 et 2019, ayant pour objet l’espace migratoire ivoiro-burkinabè, qui correspond à l’aire géographique réunissant le Burkina Faso et la Côte d’Ivoire, au sein de laquelle a lieu une forte densité de circulations internationales sur les différentes routes, et, en l’occurrence ici sur la voie de chemin de fer reliant Abidjan à Ouagadougou. Notre recherche s’appuie sur des entretiens semi-directifs réalisés non seulement auprès des Burkinabè installés en Côte d’Ivoire, mais aussi auprès d’anciens migrants burkinabè revenus dans leur pays d’origine et qui continuent d’entretenir des liens avec les deux pays. Ces entretiens ont été complétés par d’autres effectués auprès d’immigrés ivoiriens au Burkina Faso, une migration plus récente qui contribue depuis une vingtaine d’années à renforcer le dynamisme de cet espace migratoire.
