As atividades humanas de consumo e produção industrial demandam cada vez mais o consumo de energia, o que tem expandido no Brasil a produção do etanol a partir da cana-de-açúcar, com destaque no âmbito mundial, como matriz energética renovável e alternativa aos combustíveis de origem fóssil. O objetivo é analisar o ciclo de vida do etanol hidratado, a partir da cana-de-açúcar. Na metodologia aplica-se a Avaliação de Ciclo de Vida do Centro de Ciência Ambiental da Leiden University (CML) 2000 para do Grupo Santa Terezinha, Paraná, Brasil. Nos resultados a fase agrícola representa o maior impacto ambiental potencial quando confrontada com a etapa industrial e de transporte. As categorias de impacto ficam atreladas às questões de Toxicidade Humana e Ecotoxicidade em Águas Doces. As interferências ambientais da fase agrícola não se manifestam na Depleção da Camada de Ozônio. Os ápices estão na Eutrofização e Depleção da Camada de Ozônio. Conclui-se o etanol hidratado pode ser considerado um combustível renovável, porém, não limpo.
