A simple effective synthesis of 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-one derivatives from aromatic aldehydes, 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds and urea in glacical acetic acid using cadmium sulfate as catalyst is described and compared with the classical Biginelli reaction conditions, this new method has the advantage of excellent yields (83-94%) and short reaction time (2-4 h).
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
