Although extremely rare, perineural or foraminal hematomas may occur as a serious complication of TFESI, even in the setting of a standardized procedure. Hematoma may cause worsening of symptoms in the acute and subacute phase following TFESI. Further investigation into the etiologies of such injuries is warranted and must be added to the considerations of pain physicians performing these procedures.
Background:Cysticercosis is more common than usually thought. Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) plays an important role in prompt recognition of this disease.Aims:To study the role of FNAC in the diagnosis of cysticercosis.Materials and Methods:Twenty-two patients with subcutaneous and intramuscular nodules, who were clinically diagnosed as tuberculous lymphadenitis, reactive lymphadenitis, lipoma, neurofibroma and cysticercosis were included in the present study. Results:In nine cases, a definitive diagnosis of cysticercosis was obtained in the form of fragments of parasite bladder wall and, biopsy confirmed the diagnosis. In the rest 13 cases, larval fragments could not be identified on the aspirates and the diagnosis of parasitic inflammation was suggested on the basis of other cytomorphological findings. Follow-up biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of cysticercosis. Conclusions:FNAC in cysticercosis is a low-cost outpatient procedure. The cytological diagnosis is quite straightforward in cases where the actual parasite structure is identified in the smears. However, in other cases, presence of eosinophils, histiocytes which may be in palisaded clusters or not, a typical granular dirty background, etc., are the features which should always alert the pathologist to this possibility.
A 52-year-old businessman, with no contributory medical or neuropsychiatric comorbidities, was hospitalized for COVID-19 pneumonia. He received conservative management as per COVID-19 treatment guidelines and was discharged after a week. Within a week of the discharge, he reported being withdrawn, having decreased interaction with family members, remaining mute for hours together, hypersomnolence, and sometimes would not swallow the chewed food. He was brought to the psychiatric outpatient department for evaluation. On Mini Mental State Examination, he scored 24 out of 27. In the Bush Francis Catatonia Rating Scale, the score was 24, with higher scores in the domains of mutism, verbal fluency, and negativism. EEG and MRI brain were normal. In view of catatonia and recent recovery from COVID pneumonia, a benzodiazepine without respiratory suppression effect, tofisopam, was administered at a dose of 100 mg/per day, in divided doses, for two weeks. No respiratory
Primary adenoid cystic carcinoma of the cervix is a rare condition. It is a rare variant of adenocarcinoma and is mostly seen in postmenopausal women. Here we report a case of primary adenoid cystic carcinoma of uterine cervix.
Background: Hysterectomy means removal of uterus. The present study was conducted to assess histopathology of hysterectomy specimens. Subjects and Methods: The present study was conducted on 104 hystrectomy specimens. The hysterectomy specimens received were immediately transferred into 10% fresh formalin. The histopathological findings of uterus and cervix were then recorded. Results: Clinical indications were ovarian cyst in 2, dermoid cyst in 11, fibroid uterus in 25, menorrhagia in 34, chronic cervicitis in 6, carcinoma cervix in 10, carcinoma endometrium in 7, and uterine polyp in 9. The difference was significant (P< 0.05). Histopathology was normal in 24, adenocarcinoma in 16, leiomyoma in 12, adenomyosis in 16, chronic cervicitis in 20, SCC in 17, endocervical polyp in 7. The difference was significant (P< 0.05). Conclusion: Hystrectomy is a common procedure among females. Histopathology of hysterectomy found to be adenocarcinoma, endocervical polyp leiomyoma, adenomyosis, chronic cervicitis, SCC, and normal histology.
