The dynamic responses of the molecular tilt and the dielectric constant of liquid crystal cells which exhibit the electroclinic effect (ECE) in the SmA phase were studied. The numerical simulation of the dynamic ECE responses on a basis of the Landau-type formula was proposed. From the numerical results, it was examined that the non-polar and/or polar surface anchoring strength affects the molecular reorientational distribution. ECE responses was found to be affected by the order of the phase transition. The numerical results were confirmed through comparison with the experimental results.
New ferroelectnc liquid crystal (FLC) materials for the~-Vmin mode FLCDS were developed, realizing fast response time ( 12jxsec/line) and high contrast ratio (higher than 100: 1). The developed FLC materials are useful for simple multiplexing FLCDS with high contrast and moving full color images, realizing high bit temporal dither for gray scale.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
