In this study, we analyze the attenuated total reflection spectra by interpreting two virtual modes in a Kretschmann configuration. Provided that the reflectance minimum remains zero, the damping of the surface plasmon can be modulated to yield a narrower attenuated total reflection (ATR) spectrum. A multilayered structure is designed between a prism and a metal film. An equivalent metal film with a high index of extinction to index of refraction ratio yields ATR angular and wavelength spectra that are narrower than the spectra obtained from a single metal film.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
