In this study, a poultry egg incubator was designed, fabricated, and tested to evaluate its hatching performance. The incubator consists of a microcontroller with egg turner trays and incubating chamber of 116 nos. of egg capacity. The hatchability of the developed incubator was 79.3% and 87.1% hatchability during manual and automatic trials respectively. The temperature in the developed incubator was within the acceptable incubation temperature ranges from 37.6 °C to 38.6 °C. The average relative humidity in the developed incubator was maintained at 63.6% at manual and 55-65% at automatic trial. The eggs were turned manually approximately at 6 hours of interval. On the other hand, in the automatically controlled trial, it was done by egg turner maintaining exactly 6 hours of interval. It is noted that the percentage of hatching in rice husk incubators is below 55% which is much below comparing with the developed incubator. Also, the newborn chickens in rice husk incubators are unhealthy as they don’t get a sufficient amount of heat. Besides, in the sand incubation technique, kerosene-based hurricane lamps are used which produce Carbon Dioxide. The developed incubator is environment friendly because it doesn’t produce any by-product that is responsible for harming the environment. Also, after the successful trials, we have found the benefit-cost ratio was 1.42 which was quite satisfactory. The egg incubator can maintain the optimum conditions for the hatching of the chicken eggs and is capable of incubating and hatching the chicken eggs effectively. If the developed incubator is commercially supplied to the end-user, it will be a beneficial process of hatching for the farmer of Bangladesh.
The world population is continuously growing at a rapid rate, so a great challenge for this time is to ensure the security of food and nutrition for this increased population seeking for new crop as a source of food and nutrition. In such state mushrooms, a great source of protein, can be a favor that can be cultivated by landless people using agricultural waste material. The research work was about to analyze the effect of three lighting conditions namely dark condition (C1), medium lighting condition (C2), and sunlight (C3) on growth, yield, and nutrient content of pleurotus ostreatus (white oyster mushroom). Vertical farming technology was applied in mushroom production in order to minimize the land use. Three vertical structures each of three layers were used. This study also encompassed the effects of different layers (bottom later L1, middle layer L2, top layer L3) on the growth and yield of mushroom. The findings of this investigation revealed that there were significant differences in growth and yield at different conditions and structural layers. The highest average growth and yield (stalk height 3.87 cm, cap size 11.89 cm, stipe size 2.65 cm, crops per bag 15.78, fresh weight 60.03 g, and dry weight 17.03 g) was observed in dark condition (C1). On the other hand, lowest growth, and yield (stalk height 1.59 cm, cap size 3.67 cm, stipe size 1.51 cm, crops per bag 4.22, fresh weight 18.38 g, and dry weight 4.47 g) was found in sunlight (C3). Oyster mushroom cultivated in dark condition C1 also have high nutrient content. The study suggested that maintaining the absolute darkness is capable of producing high-quality white oyster mushroom.

<abstract> <p>This study incorporates the design, fabrication, implementation and evaluation of soil-based Vertical Floating Bed (VFB). The VFB has contained six plots in three vertical layers, each layer having vertical distance of 0.61 m. The structural load was calculated and three water barrels were used to maintain stable floating condition. Red Amaranth was grown and the production was evaluated with horizontal farm based on no. of leaves (NoL), stem size (SS), crop weight, crop height (CH), root zone depth and total yield (Y). Statistical analysis showed that there was a significant difference in yield among different layers of VFB with horizontal layer. Most of the considerable yield (NoL 10 nos, CH 0.27 m, SS 12 mm, Y 1.54 kg) was achieved from the top layer of the structure (L1). The lowest production (NoL 7 nos, CH 0.19 m, SS 9 mm, Y 0.83 kg) was found in the bottom layer (L3). The elevation of different layers caused growth variances due to sunlight exposure differences. The study suggested that healthy production will be capable as insect and weed infestation was negligible. It can also be a sustainable method to grow vegetables in low-land areas.</p> </abstract>
