Unitermos:ABSTRACT: Apigenin-7-glucoside, C 21 H 20 O 10 (7-(β-D-glucopyranosyloxy)-5-hydroxy-2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-4H-1-benzopyran-4-one), was first time isolated from the roots of Clerodendrum serratum (L.) Moon, Lamiaceae. Structure elucidation of the compound was carried out by 1 H NMR and FAB-MS studies.
In the present investigation, the saponins rich fraction of roots of Cassia auriculata L. was evaluated for antimicrobial activity against P. vesicularis, Streptococcus faecalis, Aeromonas hydrophilia, Salmonella typhae, Staphylococcus cohni, Serratia ficaria and E. coli at concentration of 12.5 mg/ml, 25 mg/ml, 37.5 mg/ml and 50 mg/ml. Antimicrobial activity of Cassia auriculata L. was carried out by well diffusion method. At maximum conc. i.e. 50mg/ml, antimicrobial effect of Saponin rich extract can be arranged in sequence of - P. vesicularis > Serratia ficaria > Streptococcus cohni > Aeromonas hydrophilic> Salmonella typhae > Sterptococcus faecalis > E. coli. The results indicate the saponins rich fraction of roots of Cassia auriculata L. might be exploited as natural drug for the treatment of several infectious diseases caused by these organisms. Objective:To determine antimutagenic activity of Cassia auriculata Linn. on chromosomal damage induced by cyclophosphamide (CP).Material and Methods:In the present investigation, four groups of six Swiss albino mice in each group were used. Excepting for thefirst group all the remaining groups were treated with CP (50 mg/kg). Mice of third and fourth group were treated with ethyl acetate extract of C. auriculata Linn. at 100 mg/kg and 200 mg/kg with CP. Metaphase of bone marrow cells of all animals were analyzed for qualitative and quantitative chromosomal aberrations. Break, fragment, deletion, Polyploidy, pulverized, ring and total aberration were observed.Results:Flavonoids rich extracts of root of C. auriculata Linn. provided significant protection (P < 0.05) against CP induced chromosomal aberration. Total chromosomal aberration was found to be 12.16 and 7.33% in 100 and 200 mg/kg of extract treated animals respectively.Conclusion:From the present study it can was observed that ethyl acetate extract of C. auriculata Linn possess significant anti-mutagenic potential against CP induced chromosomal aberration.
Medicinal plants and its products have been used as a remedial agent in most irising countries for treating diseases. Furthermore, an increasing reliance on the use of medicinal plants in industrialized societies has been traced for the extraction and development of several drugs and chemotherapeutics from these herbal plants. Novel acetylenic fatty acids named Ximenynic acid (XMA) were successfully isolated from the seeds of Santalum album L by N-Hexane extraction. Ximenynic acid (or Santalbic acid) is one of the few acetylenic fatty acids occurring at higher levels in plant seed oils. Ximenynic acid predominantly exists in the seed oil of Santalaceae, Olacaceae, and Opiliaceae families. The structure of XMA was characterized by UV-visible spectroscopy, Infrared Spectrum(IR), NMR Spectroscopy, Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), Thermal Gravimetric Analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy(FT-IR), LCMS spectral analysis. The antiaging activities were assessed by anti-collagenase enzyme assay. Structural analysis revealed that XMA was a crystalline material with a melting point of 38.25°C and an average molecular weight of 278 kDa.Which is composed of carboxylic acid, butylene acid, methylene, allylic in their structure. The antiaging assay showed that XMA exhibited significant collagenase inhibition activity as compared with Catechin. These findings suggested that the acetylenic fatty acids XMA could be served as a novel antiaging in Pharmaceutical as well as the cosmetic industry.
