Background: Kaposi sarcomais a low-grade malignant vascular lesion, which has different histological variants. Pyogenic granuloma-like Kaposi sarcoma is an unusual type of this tumor, which presents as anexophytic small nodule surrounded by an epidermal collaret mimicking pyogenic granuloma yet it has immunohistopathologic features of Kaposi sarcoma. Case Presentation: A 57-year old male with 2 exophytic lesions on the left hand and left foot for 3 months was presented to our center. Both lesions were excised and diagnosis of Kaposi sarcoma was confirmed by histopathology and immunohistochemistry. Human herpesvirus 8 DNA was detected by the polymerase chain reaction in the lesions. Conclusions: Immunostaining methods should be considered in pyogenic granuloma-like lesions with unusual presentation.
bstract- We reported two cases of immunocompetent patients with a rare form of AIDS-associated Kaposi sarcoma (KS), without visceral involvement, presenting with an unusual clinical and histopathological picture called telangiectatic and lymphangioma-like KS, respectively. Dermatologists and pathologists need to be aware of this uncommon described variant to avoid the potential for misdiagnosis.
Background Opportunistic infections are common in organ transplant recipients. After 6 months of transplantation, patients have the highest risk of opportunistic infections such as cryptococcosis. Case Presentation The report presents the case of a 36-year-old female renal transplant recipient, with complaints of few subcutaneous painful and warm nodules and large, warm, erythematous, nontender plaques on the mildly edematous right leg and ankle. Incisional biopsy of the subcutaneous nodule over the leg showed panniculitis with small- to medium-sized vasculitis associated with round yeast forms, and culture of the fragments revealed C. neoformans var. grubii. Conclusions This article also reviews in brief the treatment of this rare complication. Reviewing the literature showed that since the cryptococcal cutaneous lesions are often nonspecific, the clinical picture solely is not enough to construct a definite diagnosis and there must be a high clinical suspicion.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
