Role of leadership in creating a positive work environment is needed. Prevention of workplace violence should focus on at-risk groups to reduce workplace violence. Workplace violence should be communicated regularly and feedback should be given if there is unintentional non-physical violence. In particular it is important to investigate post-violence management in nurses who have experienced violence to reduce secondary trauma.
BackgroundIn order to assess nursing students’ informatics competency, we need a comprehensive Korean version scale that reflects the important advances in nursing informatics and can make up for the lack of an existing measure. This study aimed to cross-culturally adapt the Self-Assessment of Nursing Informatics Competencies Scale (SANICS) into Korean (K-SANICS) and verify its validity and reliability with nursing students.MethodsThe design of this study was a methodological approach to translate and evaluate the Korean version tool (K-SANICS). A total of 254 nursing students at four universities in Korea completed a structured questionnaire including background characteristics and the K-SANICS. Reliability and validity of the 30-item K-SANICS were evaluated using Cronbach’s α, content validity, factor analysis, and contrasted groups approach.ResultsCronbach’s α was .95. Exploratory factor analysis was performed to verify the scale’s construct validity, identifying 30 items across six categories: advanced skills for clinical informatics, basic application skills, basic computer skills, roles in nursing informatics, skills for clinical applications, and attitude toward computers in nursing.ConclusionThe K-SANICS may be used as a reliable assessment tool of nursing students’ nursing informatics competencies. It is expected that the K-SANICS will contribute to establishing, operating, and evaluating nursing informatics curricula and also can be used in a clinical setting.
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVESThe purpose of this study was to investigate the overall effects of a tailored Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) nutritional intervention program which included omega-3 fatty acids supplementation, on dietary self-efficacy, dietary knowledge, and dietary behaviors in Korean elderly women with abdominal obesity. Furthermore, we investigated the effects of the program on metabolic syndrome parameters including the antioxidant capacities in these subjects.SUBJECTS/METHODSA randomized, controlled trial was conducted for 8 weeks. The experimental group (n = 21) received a weekly tailored nutritional program for 8 weeks and the control group (n = 18) received only one educational session. The clinical survey was conducted before and after the intervention period.RESULTSAfter the intervention, dietary self-efficacy (P = 0.023), frequency of fruit intake (P = 0.019), and dietary fiber intake (P = 0.044) were higher in the experimental group than in the control group. The oxidative stress (P < 0.001) was lower in the experimental group than in the control group. Moreover, low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol (P = 0.023) had significantly decreased in the experimental group but not in the control group after the intervention.CONCLUSIONSThe intervention program including omega-3 fatty acid supplementation had a positive effect on dietary self-efficacy, dietary behaviors, and oxidative stress among aged women with abdominal obesity.
This study aimed to determine whether family-centered multidisciplinary rounds could alleviate anxiety and uncertainty in illness and meet needs for critically ill patients' families. A family-centered multidisciplinary rounds protocol was developed identifying needs of critically ill patients' families, and family experiences were reviewed through in-depth interviews. A sequential mixed-methods study was utilized, combining survey data and semi-structured interviews in a tertiary medical intensive care unit in South Korea. A structured questionnaire assessed needs, anxiety, and uncertainty in illness for 50 participants. Interview data of 10 participants were analyzed using grounded theory. Assurance was the highest family need, followed by information need. Family needs differed according to gender, relationship to the patient, and length of intensive care unit stay. Participants reported family-centered multidisciplinary rounds provided a sense of relief, a chance to listen to medical staff, and a chance to provide medical staff with comprehensive information about patient care. Proximity needs were found to have a positive correlation with state anxiety, while comfort needs had a negative correlation with uncertainty in illness. Families reported family-centered multidisciplinary rounds were positive, useful experiences. Thus, standardization of family-centered multidisciplinary rounds is needed to meet families' various needs.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the levels of depression of the college students, and correlation of depression and anxiety, unemployment stress, self-esteem, and finally to explore the moderating effect of resilience between those variables. The participants of the survey were 298 college students. The data were analyzed with t-test, ANOVA test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and moderated multiple regression by SPSS Win 18.0. The major findings were as follow; students appear to have more depression when they are female, in 1st, 2nd, 4th grades than 3rd grade, and in a low economical status. Students' depression had a positive correlation with anxiety and unemployment stress, and had a negative correlation with self-esteem, resilience. In moderated multiple regression analysis, self-esteem and anxiety were influenced by resilience such as self-control ability. Therefore, the intervention strategies for decreasing depression of college students should include development of resilience, especially self-control ability in specific, besides control of the anxiety and unemployment stress.■ keyword :|College Students|Anxiety|Unemployment Stress|Self-esteem|Depression|Resilience|
The person-centered care is essential for better patient outcome. This study was conducted to identify the factors affecting to the person-centered care among intensive care unit (ICU) nurses. Method : This study was cross sectional survey, and the participants included 107 ICU nurses who provided a written consent to participate in the study. Using a structured survey, nurse's compassion fatigue, compassion satisfaction, and person-centered care among ICU nurses were assessed. The collected data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation test with SPSS 23.0 program. The factors affecting patient-centered care were analyzed using multiple regression. Results : According to the multiple regression analysis, education level, perceived caregivers need priority and compassion satisfaction were positive affecting factors to the person-centeredness of ICU nurses. Conclusion : In conclusion, the compassion satisfaction was an affecting factor to the person-centered care, however compassion fatigue didn't affect to the person-centered care among ICU nurses. Therefore, the strategy enhancing compassion satisfaction among ICU nurses will be needed to increase person centeredness.
