Resumen: El cromo es uno de los mayores contaminantes inorgánicos de las aguas y del suelo en el Paraguay, acarreando serios problemas ambientales. Este metal proviene principalmente de efluentes de curtiembres que son vertidos a cursos de aguas. El objetivo de este trabajo es emplear técnicas de remediación alternativas para el tratamiento de aguas con alto contenido de cromo, utilizando medios naturales (plantas), en un proceso denominado fitorremediación. Ejemplares de Eichhornia crassipes fueron sometidos a una contaminación controlada con Cr 3+ durante 20 días y se consideró la máxima concentración tolerada durante todo el periodo del experimento para estudiar la taza y la capacidad de absorción del Cr 3+ de la especie. Las constantes cinéticas de este proceso fueron: constante de absorción K ab= 0,10 días-1 , y tiempo medio de absorción: t 1/2 = 6,8 días. En el efluente final de curtiembre, con 22,4 mg.L-1 de Cr 3+ , a las 48 horas se produjo una absorción casi completa del cromo suministrado, quedando en el efluente 1,28 mg.L-1 del cromo. Los factores de translocación del cromo para E. crassipes fueron 0,008 y 0,02 en agua de pozo y efluente respectivamente y los factores de bioacumulación 11,6 y 3,2 respectivamente. No se encontraron diferencias significativas entre el contenido de clorofila en los vegetales expuestas en solución de cromo en comparación con el control. Tampoco se encontró oxidación del Cr 3+ a Cr 6+ medidos espectrofotométricamente.
Resumen: Los contaminantes emergentes, también denominados microcontaminantes, son compuestos de distintos orígenes y naturaleza que durante mucho tiempo han sido ignorados debido a su baja concentración. La presencia de compuestos farmacéuticos en cuerpos de agua y sus efectos ecotoxicológicos se han convertido en un tema de interés mundial. El objetivo del trabajo aquí presentado fue evaluar la remoción del ibuprofeno y paracetamol desde un efluente doméstico mediante la macrófita acuática Typha dominguensis en sistemas de humedales flotantes a escala de mesocosmos. Los ejemplares de T. dominguensis fueron colectados de los humedales del Lago Ypacaraí, trasladadas y aclimatadas en el invernadero 30 días antes del inicio del experimento. Se diseñaron y construyeron los sistemas flotantes con el fin de que las raíces y rizomas permanezcan sumergidos. El ensayo se realizó desde un efluente doméstico con la adición de los fármacos en estudio a una concentración de 25 mg.L -1 . La constante de velocidad de decaimiento del ibuprofeno fue de K: 0,004 días -1 , y el t 1/2 = 10,1 días -1 . Para el paracetamol fue de K: 0,106 días -1 , y el t 1/2 = 6,5 dias -1 , alcanzando porcentajes de remoción de 65,1% del ibuprofeno, 86,5 % del paracetamol, en el tratamiento empleado. El contenido de clorofila no se vio afectado por la exposición a los fármacos en estudio.
