(açaí) is an economically important palm found in many places throughout Brazil. The heart of palm is a well known delicacy all around the world while the fruit of this palm is eaten only in Brazil. This study deals with the chemical composition of the hexanic extract obtained from the different parts of the fruit: the pericarp, the endocarp and the whole fruit. It has been comproved no chemical difference regarding fatty acids when these three extracts were analysed.
Spectral quality is an important factor for in vitro development of explants in a bioreactor system. Based on the need to optimize micropropagation for E. grandis × E. urophylla clones, the aim of the study was to assess the spectral quality of in vitro multiplication in temporary immersion bioreactor (TIB). The tissue used to generate the explants (i.e., the nodal segment with 1 cm of length and two axillary bud without leaves) was previously in vitro established and multiplied, it derived from ministumps of E. grandis × E. urophylla clone grown in a semi-hydroponic system. The spectral quality of in vitro multiplication was assessed through five light sources (i.e., fluorescent lamp, red, green, blue, and yellow cellophane). Morphological and anatomical features of tissues grown in TIB were evaluated at 90 days. Based on the results, yellow and blue spectral qualities were the most suitable to be adopted for in vitro multiplication of E. grandis × E. urophylla, since they enabled lesser hyperhydricity, favors high number of shoots per explant and shoot length, as well as thicker mesophyll and spongy parenchyma; arise as an alternative for large-scale production of eucalypts clonal plants.
CARBONIZED AND DECOMPOSED COFFEE HUSK AS SUBSTRATE COMPONENT FOR INGÁ SEEDLING PRODUCTION ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to evaluate the carbonized and decomposed coffee husk in the seedling production of Inga vera Willd subsp. affinis (DC). T. D. Penn by assessing the survival and growth. The experiment was conducted in recipient of 110 cm³, being installed in a completely randomized design consisting of seven treatments with five replications of eight seedlings per plot. After 180 days, the survival rate, plant height, stem diameter, ratio between plant height and stem diameter, shoot dry mass, dry mass of root system, total dry mass, dry mass ratio of shoot/root dry mass and Dickson Quality Index (IQD) were evaluated. The composting of the carbonized coffee husk improved the quality of Inga vera subsp. affinis seedlings; and the substrate with proportions of this component resulted in the best responses for survival and most of the quality parameters evaluated. Further studies are recommended to better understand the effects of this component for the seedling production. Keywords: Inga vera subsp. affinis; renewable substrate; composting; seedling quality; forest seedlings.
Micropropagation is one technology to propagate endemic species of the Ferruginous Rupestrian Grasslands when in vitro genetic conservation is sought. The present study aimed to assess the breaking of dormancy, in vitro establishment, multiplication, elongation, rooting, and acclimatization of Mimosa calodendron from culture in a temporary immersion bioreactor system. The seeds used for the experiments were from plants originating from the Ferruginous Rupestrian Grasslands. The percentage of contamination, oxidation, unresponsive seeds, germination, number of buds per explant, shoot length, senescence, percentage of adventitious rooting, and acclimatization were assessed. The breaking of dormancy was most successful by mechanical scarification (80% germination). Immersion in sodium hypochlorite for 5 minutes was the most efficient treatment for in vitro establishment (90%). For the in vitro multiplication and elongation phase, the use of liquid culture medium from cultivation in a temporary immersion bioreactor was the most suitable for the characteristics number of buds per explant (2.55 buds), vigor (1.1), oxidation (1.3) and senescence (1.3) according to the score’s scale. Regardless of the in vitro cultivation method, the percentages of rooting and acclimatization were satisfactory, and it was possible to obtain complete plants in 190 days.
