Electrochemical reactions are intensified by soil flooding, which changes the dynamics of nutrients and negatively affects plant growth. In this work, we aimed to evaluate the changes in the redox potential (Eh), pH and nutrient availability in a Haplic Gleysol soil from a floodplain of the Guamá River, Belém, Pará State. During the period of floods (61 days), samples soils were collected on alternate days and analyzed in dry and wet conditions. Flooding resulted in higher pH values and decreased Eh, which stabilized after 32 days of flooding and did not affect the values of total nitrogen. An increase in the concentrations of phosphorus, sulfur, iron, manganese, copper and zinc were observed, and they were subsequently reduced with time of submergence. The reduction of sulfur occurred at low Eh and pH values near neutrality. The results show that nitrogen and sulfur do not limit agricultural production in the lowland soils of the Guamá River.
This study evaluated the changes in soil fertility mangrove after immersion in distilled water, present in the estuary of the Caeté river. In experiments, soil was immersed in distilled water, and determined periodically pH and Eh and available concentrations of Ca, K, Cu, Fe, P and organic C for a period of 132 days. The soils and suspensate had a similar composition, quartz, kaolinite, illite, and smectite, as well as anatase as an accessory mineral. Immersion provoked profound alterations in the fertility of the soil promotion the release of Fe and P, and changes in the availability of Ca, K and Cu. Carbon was consumed during the experiment, reducing its concentration. The pH changes from high acidity to medium acidity while the oxidized environment has changed for reduced environment for Eh -281.25 in 132 days of flooding. The study confirmed that the local gleisols are highly fertile, presence of 2:1 clay minerals and high levels of organic carbon who contributed to the considerable fertility of this soil. The study also indicates the importance of the suspensate for the maintenance ofthe fertility of the soil, given its high levels of exchangeable cations and available phosphorus.
The predominant soils of the Amazon estuary are the haplic and salic gleisols, found in large areas. The objective was to compare analyzes of wet soil with those of pre-dried samples, and for wet samples they were adjusted using a conversion factor. Soil samples from two different areas of the Amazon estuary in northern Brazil. The soil samples were immersed in distilled water (four replicates and two soils) for a period of 132 days, with observations for a period of 52 days. Chemical analysis of P, Fe, Mn, Ca, K, Zn and Cu -was analyzed using both methods (wet and pre-dry). The results of both procedures were able to detect the variation in the concentrations of the different elements over the time of immersion. The increased sensitivity of the wet soil approach in these specific cases represents a major advantage in determining the chemical characteristics of the soils found in the analyzed environments.
