The aim of this study was to compare the measurement values obtained with a non-contact infrared thermometer, a tympanic thermometer and a chemical dot thermometer. The research population was composed of students studying in two departments of a university in Ankara. A total of 452 students who fit the inclusion criteria of the study and volunteered to participate were included in the sample. Body temperature measurements with different thermometers were performed by the same researcher at the same room temperature. Data were analyzed in a computerized environment by SPSS 15.0 statistical program pack and Bland-Altman graph. Mean age of healthy young adults participating in the study was 19.66 ± 0.94, and 55.1% of them were female. The agreement limits for non-contact infrared and chemical dot was between -1.30 and 0.32°C; for non-contact infrared and tympanic was between -1.26 and 0.13°C; and for chemical dot and tympanic -0.89 and 0.74°C. It was determined that, although the measurement values of the tympanic membrane and chemical dot thermometers conformed with each other, the conformity of the non-contact infrared thermometer was weak.

The aim of this single-blinded, randomized controlled study was to determine the effectiveness of vapocoolant spray in reducing pain related to venipuncture in young, healthy male blood donors. The participants were separated into 2 groups by randomization. The donors in the control group (n = 44) were not given any intervention during the blood collection process. Vapocoolant spray was applied to the donors in the vapocoolant spray group (n = 44). The pain score was 1.90 ± 1.47 for the vapocoolant spray group and 3.23 ± 2.21 for the control group, and the difference between the groups was found to be statistically significant (P = .02). The study result showed that the use of vapocoolant spray for pain management is an effective method of reducing pain related to venipuncture during the process of blood donation in young male donors.
Subcutaneous heparin administration is routinely used for many patients in orthopaedic clinics. Nurses frequently encounter ecchymosis formation with heparin administration. Previous research indicates that the administration protocol may have effect on ecchymosis formation. The study was performed to determine and compare the effect of three different approaches of subcutaneous enoxaparin injection on ecchymosis formation in patients who underwent joint replacement surgery. Three protocols were compared: (1) injecting enoxaparin in 10 seconds, (2) injecting enoxaparin in 30 seconds, and (3) injecting enoxaparin in 30 seconds and waiting for an additional 10 seconds before withdrawing the needle. Ecchymosis formation was assessed in both size and frequency. Descriptive statistics, Kruskal-Wallis analysis, Mann-Whitney U test, and Spearman rank correlation test were used to assess the data. The ecchymosis frequency was higher in the 10-second administration. Ecchymosis size was smaller when the enoxaparin was administered in 30 seconds and the needle was kept in the tissue for 10 seconds after injection. The enoxaparin should be administered in a longer duration (30 seconds). Keeping the needle in the tissue for 10 seconds may further decrease the size but not the incidence of ecchymosis.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
