In the practice of sports that require impact and pivot movements such as football or skiing, knee injuries are common and among these is important to underline the rupture of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL). Noncontact movements cause a 70% of ACL injuries and there is a high incidence of ruptures in women. Therefore, the objective of this study is to analyse what are the causes for the difference in incidence between men and women in terms of ACL ruptures. Through the search in the previous literature it has been observed that the fact that female athletes suffer ACL injuries with a higher frequency than male athletes is mainly due to anatomical, hormonal, biomechanical and neuromuscular control factors. Due to this occurrence, it is important to promote mainly treatments and prevention plans in order to reduce neuromuscular imbalances, that is predominant in women, to decrease the risk of ACL injuries in female athletes.
Purpose: To describe the learning curve of hip arthroscopy based on postoperative pain scores. Hip arthroscopy is technically demanding and entails a learning curve. Postoperative pain as immediate postoperative side effect may be tested with numerical scales. Methods:A retrospective and descriptive epidemiology study was performed reviewing the levels of postoperative pain of the first 61 surgeries indicated for femoroacetabular impingement of the hip in our service. Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) was obtained during first 24 hours, searching for cases with VAS > 3, which had been previously catalogued as out of control, creating a series of cumulative cases (CUSUM) and analyzing the order of appearance within that series.Results: Sequential analysis by Cumulative Sum Method (CUSUM) shows a learning curve that stabilizes at case 33. From then on, the remaining patients did not present uncontrollable pain. Conclusion:The reduction in patients with VAS > 3 may reflect an improvement in pain management and surgical technique over time.

PA has been shown to be a viable option to help prevent the incidence and effectively manage disorders such as clinical depression, stress, and anxiety [16][17][18].Costs to treat diseases associated with a lack of regular physical activity have a distinctly negative impact on the American health care system. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention the total costs of treating all cardiovascular disease in 2015 alone was over $650 billion dollars and is estimated to exceed $1 trillion by 2030 [19]. The American Diabetes Association estimates the annual healthcare cost of type 2 diabetes mellitus in 2012 at $245 billion, an increase of 41% from estimates five years prior in 2007 [20]. National expenditures for cancer in 2010 were estimated at just under $125 billion, a figure estimated to increase to over $157 billion by 2020 [21]. In total, it is evident that a few mostly preventable diseases account for a large and growing proportion of American healthcare costs.In addition to the financial burden due to insufficient physical activity, increased morbidity and mortality must also be considered. Purpose: Hip osteoarthritis is related to the deformity caused by femoroacetabular impingement (FAI). This lesion is related too with an increased performance of sports activities, such as soccer. Alpha angle is a possible measurement of the deformity caused by FAI, especially Cam-type lesion. The purpose of the present study is to describe the alpha angle measured in AP and axial projections in a group of soccer players, being able to compare it with the general population and populations of adult soccer players. Methods: Alpha angle was collected in a professional group of soccer players (mean age 12.7 years old) with a minimum sports practice of 5 years, to compare to the previously published, both in the general population and professional soccer players. Results: Alpha angles in a population of 20 soccer players show pathological values (> 55°) in 32.5% of the players. Pathological alpha angles described in general population are around 14%, whereas the adult soccer players are over 40%. Conclusion: Alpha angle can be an objective value to detect at-risk players of developing FAI.
Objective: The aim of this study was reviewed the scientific evidence of the relationship that could exist between the use of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) after the reconstruction of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL). Design: We performed a systematic using the following key words: platelet rich plasma AND anterior cruciate ligament. Abstracts were screened by a single reviewer. For those studies meeting the eligibility criteria, full-text articles were obtained. Results: From 127 studies found only 5 articles were included in this systematic review. We found the presence of inflammatory diseases, DM, advanced osteoarthrosis (grade III-IV), previous knee surgeries, malignant diseases, contrast allergy, renal disease and thrombocytopenia. Conclusion: The use of the platelet rich plasma after the ACL reconstruction with patellar tendon, demonstrates a better autograft recovery in terms of vascularization, bone remodeling and edema decreasing, achieving an earlier autograft homogenization.
