New bus designs inspired by the perfect streamlined body shapes of beluga whales are presented. The bodies are drawn using the UNIGRAPHICS program. The drag forces and the drag coefficients of variants of the new bus models are determined both experimentally and numerically. For numerical computations, the drawings are inserted into the ANSYS CFD program for meshing. The drag forces and the drag coefficients corresponding to the various designs are then computed using the FLUENT (solver) and the CFX (result) program. The experimental determination of the drag forces and the drag coefficients are performed in a wind tunnel test. Both numerical and experimental analysis reveals that substantial reductions in drag forces and drag coefficients are possible using the beluga whale inspired buses. Due to the reduced drag, lower fuel consumptions are expected for the new designs.
Solar energy is the most popular alternative energy resource application. Humanity has continued to search for different energy sources since its existence. While energy resources have been found to meet energy needs, they have also brought about environmental pollution. Solar energy is a solution to energy needs and does not cause environmental pollution. Solar collectors are needed to use solar energy. In this study, the design to meet the electricity needs of a house with solar energy has been made. In this study, a system that meets the electrical energy requirement of a house in İzmir, Turkey, with photovoltaic panels has been designed and examined. According to the results, panel prices are very high, and the manufacturers should reduce the initial installation cost. In this project, the heat requirement of a duplex house of 175 m2 is calculated. It is decided to use a heat pump to meet this thermal need. The electrical energy consumed by the duplex house's heat pump and other electronic appliances is calculated, and a system that generates electricity from solar energy is designed to meet this energy demand.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
