This paper deals with the issue of automatically matching networks with different levels of details. We first present why this issue is complex through an analysis of the differences that can be encountered between networks. We also present different criteria, tools and approaches used for network matching. We then propose a matching process, named NetMatcher. This process is a several steps process looking for potential candidates and then analysing them in order to determine the final results. It relies on the comparison of geometrical, attributive, and topological properties of objects. It determines one-to-many links between networks: in particular a node of the less detailed network can be matched to several arcs and nodes forming a complex junction in the most detailed network. An important strength of the process is to self-evaluate its results through the comparison of topological organisation of networks. This paves the way to an interactive editing of the results. The NetMatcher process has been intensively tested on a wide range of actual datasets, thus highlighting its effectiveness as well as its limits.

Nowadays geographic vector data is produced both by public and private institutions using well defined specifications or crowdsourcing via Web 2.0 mapping portals. As a result, multiple representations of the same real world objects exist, without any links between these different representations. This becomes an issue when integration, updates, or multi-level analysis needs to be performed, as well as for data quality assessment. In this paper a multi-criteria data matching approach allowing the automatic definition of links between identical features is proposed. The originality of the approach is that the process is guided by an explicit representation and fusion of knowledge from various sources. Moreover the imperfection (imprecision, uncertainty, and incompleteness) is explicitly modeled in the process. Belief theory is used to represent and fuse knowledge from different sources, to model imperfection, and make a decision. Experiments are reported on real data coming from different producers, having different scales and either representing relief (isolated points) or road networks (linear data)

Considerable amounts of geographical data are still collected not in form of GIS data but just as natural language texts. This paper proposes an approach for the automatic geocoding of itineraries described in natural language. This approach needs as an input a text annotated with part-of-speech and geosemantic tags. The proposed method is divided into three main steps. Firstly we build a complete graph where vertices represent locations, all vertices are connected to each other by undirected edges. We assign a weight to all the edges of the complete graph using a multi-criteria analysis approach. Then we compute a minimum spanning tree to obtain an undirected acyclic graph connecting all vertices. And finally, we transform this graph into a partially directed acyclic graph in order to identify the sequence of waypoints and build an approximation of a plausible footprint of the itinerary described. Additionally, the rationale of the proposed approach has been verified with a set of experiments on a corpus of hiking descriptions.

Abstract:The Right to Build is defined by textual elements that determine what an owner can build on a parcel. Such regulations contain elements that can influence the development of territories. Expressed through legal texts, their effects on the territory are difficult to assess because of the documents' complexity and of the diversity of urban configurations. In this paper, we present a generic and extendable model to represent such regulations. This model is based on (1) a representation of geographical concepts (attributes, features and relations) mentioned in regulations and (2) rules formalized with Object Constraints Language (OCL). We also propose an implementation that allows the handling of formalized rules in order to check if a building configuration proposal respects urban regulations. Many applications are possible in order to assist in the conception of such regulations, land acquisition strategy or territorial evolution studies, in this article, we notably describe a future application dedicated to assist building permit surveyors.
