Controlled Model Assisted Evolution Strategy with Adaptive PreselectionFrank Hoffmann, Member, IEEE,and Sebastian HölemannAbstract-The utility of evolutionary algorithms for direct optimization of real processes or complex simulations is often limited by the large number of required fitness evaluations. Model assisted evolutionary algorithms economize on actual fitness evaluations by partially selecting individuals on the basis of a computationally less complex fitness model. We propose a novel model management scheme to regulate the number of preselected individuals to achieve optimal evolutionary progress with a minimal number of fitness evaluations. The number of preselected individuals is adapted to the model quality expressed by its ability to correctly predict the best individuals. The method achieves a substantial reduction of fitness evaluations on a set of benchmarks not only in comparison to a standard evolution strategy but also with respect to other model assisted optimization schemes.
This paper deals with object oriented modelling, simulation and control of dynamic, technical systems. The exhaust gas cycle of an oxyfuel power plant is used to clarify the characteristics and advantages of the object oriented modelling using Modelica for automatic control purposes. Different libraries are used for modelling the thermodynamic interrelations. The possibility of coupling the tools Modelica/Dymola and Matlab/Simulink leads to a tool chain that allows for developing an automatic control concept using rapid control prototyping methodology.
Modelica is a powerful and flexible instrument for component-wise dynamic system modeling. Unfortunately, until now it does not provide many structures to integrate advanced control methods. This article presents a Modelica library for model-based predictive controllers with linear process models, which offers the use of several model representations in the controller for predicting the future plant outputs. As well, the controller is capable of constraints and disturbance handling. A controller block can be included easily into any Modelica model and is parameterized intuitively. The library avoids the coupling of Modelica to other software products. Thus, a contribution is made towards an integrated control system design in Modelica.
