West Papua’s tropical forests are one of the mega biodiversity in the Sahul Shelf ecoregion. The increasing economic growth has a déterrent impact on deforestation and forest degradation with the rate increased by 1.29% per year (2010-2018). Meanwhile, economic growth in Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) reached 4.87% per year. This study aims to simulate carbon management from the forestry sector in West Papua into the long-term low-carbon sustainable development. This research uses a dynamic system method through Stock Flow Diagram (SDF) stage and model validation. The results showed that the forestry GRDP and emission based on the CM1 and CM2 scenarios calculated using emission reduction of 69.61% and 91.04% were determined by 0.28 and 0.09 times from BAU. The total GRDP and forestry GRDP decreased by 5.19% (CM1) and 6.59% (CM2) and 71.57% (CM1) and 90.93% (CM2). Under this scenario, West Papua could maintain a forest cover of more than 85%. The study concludes that the results of the BAU scenario predict forest cover of 70% in 2030. Simulations carried out with CM1 and CM2 reduction in emissions show that the achievement of forestry GRDP, total GRDP, and emissions is lower than BAU.
This study aims to determine the response of growth and yield of sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) to the application of several types of fertilizers on Inceptisol soil in Amban. Fertilizer application with the following doses: P0 = No fertilizer (control), P1 = NPK fertilizer (standard dose) 300 kg/ha = 225 g/mound, P2 = KCl fertilizer, 50 kg/ha = 375 g/ mounds, P3 = Papua nutrient granular fertilizer 300 kg/ha = 225 g/mounds, P4 = Papuan nutrient liquid fertilizers 10 liters/ha = 7.5 ml/mounds. P1, P2 and P3 treatments were carried out at 2 week after plant (WAP), while the P4 treatment was carried out at the age of 2, 4 and 6 WAP. The results showed that the application of several types of fertilizers did not have a significant effect on tendril length, tuber weight, wet weight and dry weight of tendrils in all observations. The analysis results of the soil chemical properties found that the soil pH was 4.63 (acidic), C-organic was 0.89% (very low), N-soil was 0.14% (low), Pavailable was 4.17 ppm (very low), and base saturation was 32.92% (low). The soil CEC was 4.94 cmol(+)/kg with exchangeable cations of kalsium, magnesium, potassium and sodium were 1.19 cmol(+)/kg (low), 0.34 cmol(+)/kg (very low), 0.07 cmol(+)/kg (very low) and 0.03 cmol(+)/kg (very low), respectively. The highest tendril length produced by KCl fertilizer, but Papua Nutrient granule yielded the best of average fresh weight of tendril, average dry weight of tendril, and tuber weight of sweet potato.
Coffee plant (Coffea arabica) is a superior plant to be developed in the Arfak mountain region due to suitable agro-climatic conditions. The way to develop it can be done in various ways, one of which is to develop it independently using seeds from farmers' gardens. This goal can be achieved if the local farming community is able to prepare seeds that HAVE high growth potential and are healthy, free from pests and diseases, especially diseases that are transmitted through the soil (seed born pathogens). The method used includes first, mentoring and discussion at the Kwau Village Hall which includes lectures and discussions about generative nurseries and the use of Trichoderma spp to treat soil borne diseases. The second method is a demonstration of how to plant cocoa seedlings in the farmer's garden accompanied by the application of Trichoderma spp. Both methods were successfully implemented and the community showed high enthusiasm as seen from the questions asked. In this mentoring activity, 60 coffee seedlings were distributed to be developed by coffee farmers. Keywords: Arabica coffee; Kwau; Trichoderma spp.
