MicroRNAs (miRs) are small non-coding RNAs implicated mainly in post-transcriptional gene silencing by interacting with the unstranslated region of the transcript. miR-210 represents a major hypoxia-inducible miRs, also known as hypoxamirs, which is ubiquitously expressed in a wide range of cells, serving versatile functions. This review article summarizes the current progress on biogenesis of miR-210 and its physiological roles including arrest of cell proliferation, repression of mitochondrial respiration, arrest of DNA repair, vascular biology, and angiogenesis. Given the fact that miR-210 is aberrantly expressed in a number of diseases such as tumor progression, myocardial infarction and cutaneous ischemic wounds, miR-210 could serve as an excellent candidate for prognostic purposes and therapeutic intervention. With the advancement of computational prediction, high-throughput target validation methodology, sequencing, proteomic analysis and microarray, it is anticipated that more down-stream targets of miR-210 and its-associated biological consequences under hypoxia will be unveiled establishing miR-210 as a major hub in the biology of hypoxia-response.
We report on the discovery of a room-temperature ferromagnetic semiconductor in chalcopyrite (Zn1-xMnx)GeP2 with Tc = 312 K. We have also observed that, at temperatures below 47 K, samples for x = 0.056 and 0.2 show a transition to the antiferromagnetic (AFM) state, so that ferromagnetism is well defined to be present between 47 and 312 K. The observation that the AFM phase is most stable at low temperatures is consistent with the predictions of full-potential linearized augmented plane wave total energy calculations and has consequences for other chalcopyrite materials.
We have fabricated Mn-doped Bi 2 Te 3 and Sb 2 Te 3 single crystals by the vertical gradient solidification method. The compositions and crystal structures of Bi 2-x Mn x Te 3 and Sb 2-x Mn x Te 3 were determined using Electron Probe Micro-Analyzer (EPMA) and powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns, respectively. Both crystal structures were rhombohedral with smaller lattice constants because of the smaller atomic radius of Mn than those of Bi and Sb. Based on the magnetization measurements, Mn-doped Bi 2 Te 3 and Sb 2 Te 3 compounds have ferromagnetic ordering at T C = 10 and 17 K, respectively.
A large proportion of incidental GB cancers were T2 and T3 lesions. Revisional surgery for radical cholecystectomy is warranted in T2 and more advanced cancers.
The prevalence of heart failure (HF) is skyrocketing worldwide, and is closely associated with serious morbidity and mortality. In particular, HF is one of the main causes for the hospitalization and mortality in elderly individuals. Korea also has these epidemiological problems, and HF is responsible for huge socioeconomic burden. However, there has been no clinical guideline for HF management in Korea. The present guideline provides the first set of practical guidelines for the management of HF in Korea and was developed using the guideline adaptation process while including as many data from Korean studies as possible. The scope of the present guideline includes the definition, diagnosis, and treatment of chronic HF with reduced/preserved ejection fraction of various etiologies.
