Syagrus oleracea é uma espécie nativa do Brasil, pertencente à família Arecaceae. É a única palmeira entre as exploradas comercialmente no país que possui palmito com sabor amargo, além disso possui potencial cosmético e também é indicada para apicultura e recuperação de áreas degradadas. A diversidade dessa espécie se encontra ameaçada devido ao avanço do desmatamento em suas populações naturais e ao extrativismo predatório. Este trabalho teve como objetivo estudar a estrutura e a variabilidade genética dessa planta utilizando como ferramenta a transferibilidade de marcadores microssatélites desenvolvidos para as espécies de Cocus nucifera e Bactris gasipaes. Foram avaliados 54 indivíduos provenientes de 4 populações do norte do estado de Minas Gerais através de 6 marcadores SSR que foram transferidos com sucesso possibilitando estudar a diversidade e a estrutura genética. Os resultados obtidos indicaram que há moderada diversidade genética para as populações avaliadas. O número médio de alelos para as populações foi 4 e a heterozigosidade observada teve valor de 0,233, inferior ao esperado 0,597, demonstrando possível excesso de homozigotos, os valores de heterozigosidade provocada pela endogamia (Fis = 0,603), heterozigosidade provocada pela deriva genética (Fst = 0,091) e heterozigosidade total (Fit = 0,639); todos dentro do intervalo de confiança a 99%. Estes resultados demonstram que há necessidade de implementação de estratégias de conservação dessa espécie sendo observado indícios de elevado grau de parentesco entre os indivíduos.
