71% of Maryland's 1,001 certified psychologists returned a questionnaire describing their continuing education (CE) activities and attitudes before and after the state mandated CE for recertification. Results suggest that psychologists vary greatly in the amount and kind of CE activity they pursue; they value most highly activities relevant to their specific interests; amount and type of CE are influenced by work setting and job activities, and mandated CE is associated with significant but nondramatic changes in patterns of CE activities. Human figure drawings of patients with severe (n = 85) and mild (n = 38) psoriasis were compared on dimensions of nudity, sexual overemphasis, and omissions of exposed body parts. For female patients significant differences were found for percentages of undressed figures and omissions. For male patients only omissions were significant. When compared to 30 patients with other mild dermatologic conditions, mildly affected psoriatic males drew significantly fewer omissions. Discussion of results focussed on body image concerns of dermatology patients as related to issues of nudity, sexuality, and exhibition of exposed body parts.
Three cases in one family—a girl and monozygotic girl twins, the offspring of a chronic alcoholic mother —are presented. They show a pattern of prenatal onset of growth deficiency and developmental delay, with microcephaly, small palpebral fissures, and multiple minor anomalies, recently described in a series of 11 unrelated cases by Jones et al. and named by them the "fetal alcohol syndrome." After considering alternative theories, we conclude, with them, that the cases demonstrate an association between the maternal alcohol intake and the abnormalities found in the offspring. We report these three cases in confirmation of their findings.
