Background: The tectonic activities at the meeting points of three large plates make Indonesia a high-risk disaster-prone area. Nevertheless, disaster risk reduction efforts in various regions of Indonesia are still lacking, in terms of both knowledge and the ability to analyze disaster risks. This study examines the implementation of disaster preparedness and mitigation in Indonesia. Methods: The method used in this study was narrative review. The authors collected the articles through searching for 3 data sources from 2016–2019 using Google Scholar, iSeek, and Microsoft Academic. Content analysis of all information to obtain the thematic phenomena of this study completed the methodological approach. Results: After applying the exclusion criteria and removing duplicates, six studies remained that focused on disaster mitigation in remote areas of Indonesia. Implementation of regulation and policy framework in disaster management is not yet optimal. Disaster preparedness and mitigation is characterized by the low utilization of technology and information related to the disaster, and various obstacles in the process of evacuation and transportation. Promoting local wisdom and enhancing it through integrating science can increase disaster resilience. Conclusion: The existence of a disaster-resilient village is very influential in community preparedness in dealing with disasters and other emergencies. This study provides some recommendations for disaster risk reduction: a) strengthening policies related to evacuation procedures in the health sector by local government, b) integrating transportation modes in remote areas, c) enhancing all parties with education and training, d) establishing community-based information systems; and e) strengthening the disaster resilience of villages.
IntroductionThe COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on all levels of society, including people with disabilities, who in the pre-pandemic period faced obstacles in various sectors of life that affected efforts to fulfill basic living needs due to difficulties in accessing employment.ObjectiveThe objective of this study was to identify various factors and causal interaction patterns that affect the inclusiveness of workers with disabilities in pandemic situations, a dynamic system is needed to capture causal interaction patterns related to the inclusiveness of workers with disabilities in pandemic situations.MethodThis study used a causal loop diagram approach, which is part of a dynamic system that begins with determining the interaction of causal variables. The process of identifying and extracting data was carried out through a literature review and in-depth interviews with informants who met the principles of appropriateness and adequacy criteria.ResultThe interaction pattern between the factors that influence the inclusiveness of disabled workers was depicted in three causal loop diagrams covering three major domains, namely social, educational, and economic aspects. The three causal loop diagrams showed an increasingly dynamic interaction pattern during the COVID-19 pandemic, considering that workers with disabilities have greater vulnerability, which impacts their level of acceptance and inclusiveness at work.RecommendationThere needs to be a specific policy to expand the acceptance of workers with disabilities by strengthening cross-sectoral collaboration and company commitments. The existence of a policy that prioritizes education, increases the budget, and procures adequate infrastructure for people with disabilities is a government commitment that is demanded to be fulfilled during the COVID-19 pandemic.
BACKGROUND: In 2020, TB patients in Indonesia reached 8.5% of the total number of TB patients globally, as the country with the second-highest TB cases. Depok is the city in the West Java region that has experienced an increase in TB cases. The existence of tuberculosis-friendly villages will reduce the stigmatization of tuberculosis (TB) patients and increase treatment compliance. AIM: This study aims to analyze various aspects of Depok City’s readiness to develop TB-friendly village governance –– including government commitment, infrastructure, resources, and organizational culture –– within the scope of academic, business, community, government, and media (ABCGM)’s role or penta-helix. METHODS: The initial stage of preparation involved conducting a literature review. This research employed an online survey of 230 respondents and 40 TB patients using a quantitative approach. The qualitative approach involved 15 stakeholders through interviews, discussions, and a website-based search. RESULTS: Overall, the respondents were well-informed about TB, but attitudes (50.9%) and behavior (41.3%) regarding TB prevention need improvement. The government budget is adequate, but coordination is lacking between stakeholders and community involvement. CONCLUSION: Depok City is not yet ready to develop TB-friendly villages in terms of human resources and organizational aspects. It is necessary to improve communication, information, and education regarding TB prevention and establish leadership policies as a legal basis to strengthen the governance and management of TB-friendly villages. Moreover, community involvement is an essential pillar of developing these villages.
