This study aimed to detect the factors that affect nursing students' self-directed learning at faculty of nursing in Minia University. Setting: The present study was conducted at nursing faculty in Minia University. Research design: This study used descriptive comparative research design. Subjects: Subjects of the study included a total coverage sample of all four academic years nursing students during academic year (2013)(2014). Total number of students were (n=777). Tools of data collection included two parts, part one: demographic characteristics of the sample, Part two comprised of scale for self-directed learning factors (three major factors subtitled by 60 statements) Results: female nursing students have the highest mean score for all major factors related to feeling successful and satisfied in studies and their characteristics which were 28.45, 44.19 and 145 respectively. The 1st year nursing students have the highest mean score for the same factors were (29.75 ±4.37), (44.91±5.42) and (1.51E2 ±19.04) respectively. Conclusions: the 1 st year nursing students and female students have the highest mean score for all major factors. This study recommended providing self-directed learning opportunities for promoting SDLR of the nursing students by motivating them and providing training, and educational resources for carrying out teaching learning process.
Background: A civility climate can affect nurses' practice and job performance through acceptance and correction of errors which leads to improved quality of care and job performance, Aim of the study: To assess the relation between workplace civility climate and job performance of nursing staff. Research design: A descriptive correlational research design. Subjects: All staff nurses working in the dialysis unit in Edfu General Hospital, their total numbers were 87 nurses. Setting: Edfu General Hospital, in Aswan city, Egypt. Tools of data collection: included two tools; the first tool to assess nursing workplace civility climate; and the second tool, to assess the level of the Job Performance scale. Results: One-third of the nursing staff had a high level of total perceived workplace civility climate dimension. The majority of the nursing staff had a satisfactory level of total job performance. There were statistically significant relations between nursing staff's perceived workplace civility climate with qualification and their current position respectively. Conclusion: planning & evaluation of the nursing staff and total perceived workplace civility climate were positively correlated. Recommendations: Educate nurses of all levels on how to foster a civil workplace climate, provide new hires with a copy of the hospital's staff nurse policy manual as part of their orientation, and conduct a further similar study for nurses in the different levels of hospitals or hospitals in the different areas.
Background: Patient safety is the cornerstone of high-quality healthcare. Hemodialysis units are complex organizations that involve providers from multiple disciplines. Nursing interventions have a great impact on reducing the risk for complications of hemodialysis patients. Aim: develop, implement and evaluate patients' safety guidelines for nurses at hemodialysis units in Ministry of Health Hospitals at Beni-Suef Governorate.. Research design: -Methodological and Quazi experimental was used in this study. Setting: This study was conducted in Ministry of Health Hospitals at Beni-Suef Governorate. All staff nurses in hemodialysis units were included the study sample study, it composed of (45) nurses. Tools: two tools were used in the study A) Observation checklist and B) Patient safety guidelines. Results the total mean scores of nursing performance was 178.06+49 before implementing guidelines program which it became the highest total mean scores was 280.02+35.5 after the implementation of guidelines for hemodialysis units. Conclusions: The developed patient safety guidelines for nurses in hemodialysis units had a positive effect on nurses' performance in ministry of Health and Population's Hospitals in Beni-Suef Governorate.Recommendation Increase and well-organize in-service training program on hemodialysis units including the newly developed standard patient safety guidelines, Developed program and its booklet should be applied in all similar settings in Beni-Sueif as a step for wider application in other governorates .
Background: Many factors influence the practice of nursing and the education of nursing students. The aim of this study is: to assess the factors affecting quality of education program for nursing students at Minia University. Design: A descriptive design was utilized for the purpose of current study. Setting: this study was carried out on the faculty of nursing Minia University. The Sample of student that participated in the study represented four academic levels (300students out of 964students) as follows: second level 91 out of 292, third level79 out of 270, fourth level70 out of 226 and internship student 60 out of 176. Tool of the study Data was collected through the utilization one tool that divided into two parts: part one: personal data and part two: Student self-assessment tool to assess the factors affecting quality of nursing education. Results: 2 nd year students had high percentage regarding evaluation system, 3 rd year student had high percentage regarding clinical infrastructure, while 4 th year student had high percentage regarding incidental teaching and guidance and counseling and internship students had high percentage regarding change in curriculum and incidental teaching were present and very essential with statistical significance differences Conclusion: 2 nd year students' determined 1 st factor affecting quality of educational program was evaluation system, 2 nd factor was qualified & experienced teachers, 3 rd factor was physical facilities and 4 th factor was change in curriculum. While, 3 rd year students' determined 1 st factor affecting quality of educational program was incidental teaching, 2 nd factor was qualified & experienced teachers, 3 rd factor was physical facilities and 4 th factor was teaching methods. Recommendations: Apply different teaching methods and styles as peer teaching and develop national standard regarding requirement in nursing students as student aptitude, personality, intelligence, and ability to follow instructions
