Até que ponto a experiência do leitor de livros juvenis subjuga-se ao esteticismo padrão imposto pela lógica do mercado editorial hegemônico que visa não apenas à obtenção de lucro? A hipótese deste artigo considera que o público consumidor tem sua sensibilidade estética reduzida a uma condição heterônoma. A partir de uma hermenêutica teórico-crítica, fundamentada na filosofia de Theodor Adorno, o objeto de análise é a lista (2014 a 2018) das obras “infantojuvenis” mais vendidas no Brasil, problematizada a partir do conceito de fetichismo da mercadoria cultural. Por meio de uma negação determinada da cultura afirmativa que tece loas a livros de consumo rápido, defende-se que no âmbito da dinâmica contraditória da realidade escolar residem as condições possíveis para se abalar o princípio do valor de troca, imperativo categórico que se sobrepõe à formação estética para a autonomia.
Este artigo problematiza o tratamento dispensado às ilustrações do programa governamental Conta pra Mim (2020). Apresenta os avanços inerentes à literatura infantil na dimensão das relações étnico-raciais, bem como expõe o contexto histórico de implementação dessa política pública. A partir da contribuição de Vigotski, recorre aos conceitos de imaginação, e criatividade e elege como corpus analítico duas ilustrações circunscritas na categoria “livros de ficção” presentes no acervo do programa. Argumenta que a atual política governamental ignora os avanços no campo da literatura infantil e das discussões e lutas inerentes à educação para as relações étnico-raciais, por meio de uma política de branqueamento. Conclui que tal intento se constitui em um obstáculo à imaginação, criação e fantasia e presta um grande serviço à manutenção de um imaginário social fundamentado em padrões eurocêntricos hegemônicos.
