The over usage and over dependency on digital devices, like smartphones, has been considered as a growing international epidemic. The increased dependency on gadgets, especially smartphones for personal and official uses, has also brought many detrimental effects on individual users. Hence it is vital to understand the negative effects of smartphone usage on human. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the effects of bedtime smartphone usage on work performances, interpersonal conflicts, and work engagement, via the mediating role of sleep quality among employees. Using a cross-sectional study design, a questionnaire-based field survey was conducted on 315 employees who participated as respondents. The results confirmed the negative effects of bedtime smartphone usage on sleep quality. Along with it, the effects of sleep quality on work performances, work engagements and interpersonal conflicts were also proven to be statistically significant. Regarding the mediating role of sleep quality, it was empirically evident that sleep quality mediates the relationship between bedtime smartphone usage with work performances and interpersonal conflicts. The findings revealed that bedtime smartphone usage reduces sleep quality among the employees, resulting in lower work performances and engagements while contributing to higher interpersonal conflicts. The findings concluded that smartphone usage before sleep increases the prospects of employees to be less productive, less engaged, and have more workplace conflicts. The findings warrant the continued managerial as well as academic research attention, as the smartphones are now used by many organisations to run businesses as well.
Purpose of the study: The study intends to find the interaction of Performance Appraisal Justice (PAJ) and work engagement (WE) to predict employee job performance (JP) and organizational citizenship behaviour (OCB) under the umbrella of fairness heuristic theory (JHT) and social exchange theory (SET). Methodology: Hypotheses testing was done using linear regression data on the data set of 325 respondents. The results are significant and indicated that Justice in the performance appraisal system is positively related to employee outcomes (OCB and job performance) with mediating effect of work engagement. Main Findings: Interaction between exogenous, endogenous, and intervening variables suggests that there is a positive relationship between PAJ and WE and WE mediate the relationship between PAJ and OCB and PAJ JP. In the organizational setting of Pakistan, this study addresses PAJ and its important outcomes which are beneficial for the organization’s effective outcomes. Applications of this study: This study throws light on the management, organizational, and administrative sciences literature, especially the human resource, organizations, and industrial behavior perspective. Administrators and human resource managers can apply the findings of this study. The study can be applied to both the public and private sectors. Originality/Novelty: Pakistani organizations have high collectivism, uncertainty avoidance and power distance, centralization, bureaucracy, and authority in organizations. Therefore, this study has proved some prominent outcomes as compared to countries with a more constant climate. The study sheds light on very important aspects of workplace behavior such as justice, work engagement, OCB, and performance with a particular focus on developing countries.
The ubiquity of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in every school framework in the world has become a trend. With ASEAN integration problems in 2015, can fresh and younger HEI's and their students cope with this trend? The goal of this analysis is to decide the preparedness and role of new HEI students in the field of ICT education. In this study a concise template utilizing a researcher-made questionnaire (α=.971) was used. The research findings show that students at college have a optimistic declaration ('agreement') on ICT use in education (x=3.71; S=.75). This was also shown that sex greatly affects the mindset of students (z=3.91, p=.00), where male attitudes are higher (x=3.91) than female attitudes (x=3.61). Moreover, it demonstrates that preparedness for ICT in general has little to do with the mindset of students towards the usage of ICT in school. Nonetheless, there is a important marginal positive association between ICT access and an attitude of significance to 0.05 (r=.15; p=.002; single-tailed), which suggests that the more a student gets introduced to ICT, the more he develops his attitude to ICT education. It was believed that ICT-based curriculum can be readily adopted and modified for the next several years by complete ICT adoption as the current educational framework. Current and younger HEIs will also spend more in ICT Accessibility and Connectivity to further boost ICT-based awareness and preparedness.
Purpose The globe has experienced a devastating COVID-19 pandemic, putting the planet under lockdown and causing social alienation. The near collapse of social and economic activities is disrupting the supply chain. Customer-required products were in low supply across the world. A slew of new digital firms springs up to fill the need during this time. This study aims to reach a holistic goal by better understanding customers' digitalisation behaviour. The first step is to review existing consumer digital psychology research to map this study’s current knowledge of the pandemic's early and late phases and the impact of digital businesses on consumer behaviour. Finally, it provides lawmakers with a future agenda for limiting the digital psychology of consumers and enterprises. Design/methodology/approach This study used the Scopus and Web of Science databases to extract records to follow the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses statement. The final 57 papers were applied after the screening process. The digital environment, psychological digitalisation and behavioural changes were recognised as three primary classes based on a comprehensive examination of the previous literature. This study identified possible difficulties in earlier literature: the scarcity of collaborative and transdisciplinary research on digital psychology, which various academics have emphasised in the past. On the other hand, these investigations were primarily conducted in the psychological surroundings of technology users. Findings According to this study, digital psychology has improved significantly during the pandemic and many new digital start-ups have arisen. This study also used digital research to create a framework for a pandemic strategic response plan to help minimise the current COVID-19 pandemic and prepare for future outbreaks. Originality/value The study mapped existing literature on digital psychology alterations because of the novel COVID-19 outbreak.
Existing study was conducted to make a combined examination of the mediating role of (a) Job involvement in linking expanded job scope model (EJSM) with turnover intentions and (b) investigate how the relationship among EJSM and turnover intention is conditional based on the level of Core Self-Evaluation (CSE) in employees.700 questionnaires were circulated among the employees of education and financial sector which yields 490 returns achieving a response rate of 70%. After initial data screening 420 complete responses were available for analyses. The results exhibit that Job involvement (JI) mediates the relationships between EJCM and turnover intentions. The results of the moderated mediation depict that JI mediates the relationships between job scope and high level of CSE in employees. The outcomes delivered valuable understandings for managers and consultants, especially to Human Resource professionals who are trying to facilitate the workforce in challenging working environment through improved job design. The businesses may encourage high level of employee involvement through redesigned job scope in presence of high order personality characteristics which helps to reduce turnover intentions. This paper contributed in the literature of job design in three different ways. First, existing research makes theoretical contribution by adding new dimension in existing JSM which is flexible work time. Second, it describes how dynamic work settings may refine employees’ abilities and behaviors. Third, the research deals with a unique view in research of job design by combining personality as a moderator (i.e., CSE).
