Quercetin reduces oxidative stress damage to reproductive profile induced by 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzop-dioxin in male albino rats (Rattus norvegicus L.

Background: The mandatory month is Ramadan on Muslim's fasting. Muslims cease from ingestion of food and water starting onset to grass widower to who wants to be fasting in this month that's according to the lunar calendar; so many immunological, physiological and biochemical changes may happen. Objective: To evaluate some vitamins, hormones and immunological markers in the first and the 28th day of fasting. Patients and Methods: Twenty five healthy adult male who were subjected to this study. The age range was 24-49 years with mean ± SD (31.6±7.07). Body weight, BMI, serum glucose, total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C), low density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C), very low density lipoprotein-cholesterol (VLDL-C), triglyceride (TG), aspartate amino transferase (AST), alanine amino transferase (ALT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), total serum bilirubin (TSB), serum creatinine, blood urea, serum electrolytes (Na, K, Cl,) haemoglobin concentration (Hb), haematocrit, vitamin -D, testosterone and C-reactive protein (CRP) were estimated in the 1st day and the 28th day of Ramadan month. The while-interval of study was 27 days. Human privacy, statistical analyses and P value were used. Results: Serum glucose, LDL, ALT, TSB, serum creatinine, blood urea, vitamin D and CRP were significantly decreased in 28th day of fasting (P=0.0002, P=0.005, P=0.009, P=0.00004, P=0.013, P=0.0074, P=0.0109, respectively). There were no significance change in total cholesterol, VLDL-C, TG, AST, ALP, K, Cl, Hb, haematocrit, testosterone (P>0.05). While HDL-C and serum Na were increased significantly in this study (P= 0=0.004, P=0.0214, respectively). Conclusion: Consuming two meals per a day during month of Ramadan has a balancing effect on biochemical, enzymes and CRP in fasted men.

This study was aimed to estimate nitric oxide (NO), malondialdehyde (MDA), and adenosine deaminase (ADA) in the serum of hypertensive patients. Fifty patients (25 males and 25 females) age 40-70 diagnosed with hypertension involved in the study. Fifty healthy individuals, who had no hypertension in the last year, were identified as the control group. NO, MDA and ADA have performed accordingly. MDA was higher with aging and gender in hypertensive patients. Serum level of MDA was higher in females compared with male due to oxidative stress more in female than a male with aging. ADA was higher among hypertensive with aging, though no significant differences among gender. Present study investigates the protective role of quercetin in reducing benzene-induced toxicity in rats. Sixteen adult rats, weighing 200-250 g, were selected. They were divided into four groups: 1. Control group, 2. Benzene inhaled group, 3. Quercetin group and 4. Group of benzene and quercetin in combination. Biochemical, spermatological parameters, and histopathological changes in lungs were recorded. Results of aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), urea and creatinine levels in the serum of rats were higher in benzene exposed rats than in unexposed rats. Conversely, exposure to benzene led to a decrease in sperm quality compared to the unexposed rats. Histopathological examinations of the lung tissues revealed structural changes in exposed rats, including emphysema, thinning of the wall of the alveolar sac, congestion between the alveolar sacs and more elasticity in the wall of smooth muscles. The present study showed that quercetin treatment can reverse the negative effects of benzene in approximately all studied parameters and showed amelioration in the histological anomalies induced by benzene toxicity.

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disorder, occurs when there are attacks of the immune system on body's tissues especially the joint, causing a painful, swelling, that finally results in bone deformity, increased free radical level in defect joint and reduce the level of the antioxidant system can cause tissue damage. Serum C-reactive protein (CRP) can be estimated as an index of the pathogen in RA.A chronic inflammatory case as in RA is probable to change magnesium, calcium and phosphorus level in the serum. Objective: To study the impact of elevated level of NO in serum of RA as a free radical involved in pathogens of arthritis and the role of CRP as an indicator for inflammation. With changes in the level of serum magnesium, calcium, and phosphors in patient with RA. Patients and Methods: Forty patient with RA were studied and then compared with the same number of healthy subjects. Nitrite was estimated by Griess reaction using VCL3 as a reducing agent by spectrophotometer at 540nm. CRP was detected by using Avitex-CRP kit and serum levels of Ca, Mg, and P was measured by fully automated random-access biochemistry analyzer (Cobas Integra 400 plus). Results: In our study, it was found that the mean NO levels were 77.33±6.37 in RA and 26.678±3.637 in healthy subjects, significant at p<0.0001. CRP test was found to be positive in 34/40 cases of RA and none of the controls. The Mg and Ca level were less than normal and significances higher change in P level. Conclusion:Our result finding that there is a close relation between oxidative stress and RA, in addition to CRP as a marker for inflammation, Mg, Ca and P level can be studied for the preferabletherapeutic management of RA.

The current study was designed to investigate the effect of exercise on the level of the cortisol hormone and some physiological variables in male athletes. The cortisol, vitamin C, glutathione (GSH), and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in the serum of twenty young male basketball players were measured before and after the exercise. The cortisol values and GSH levels showed a statistically significant decrease after physical effort compared to the result before training, in contrast to vitamin C and MDA levels represent a statistically significant increase. Decreasing cortisol levels after activity showed decreasing stress because exercise for years will reduce the stimulating effect of cortisol secretion. In addition, in response to increased oxidative stress caused by exercise, serum vitamin C increased to prevent oxidative stress. As a result, training in these athletes led to producing reactive oxygen species and thus increased lipid peroxidation, which increased MDA levels by exhausting the antioxidant defense system and reducing GSH levels. Measurement of these biomarkers allows the identification of players affected by severe oxidative stress and indicates the time of intervention for improving their performance and health.
