Tourism development strategies play a crucial role in tourism development. However, the reaction of the former to the needs of visitors and its effect on attractiveness is essential, especially in mountainous destinations. This study evaluates the impact of tourism development strategies on the attractiveness of mountain destinations. The study relied on appropriate elements derived from the literature. The study was conducted in three tourist sites in the Aures Mountains, and the sample included 468 visitors. The results showed that the destination’s attractiveness depends mainly on local factors such as nature, monuments, traditional food, and apple purchase, in addition to the quality of the price, which received the satisfaction of the majority of visitors. In turn, visitors were dissatisfied with the services assigned to tourism development strategies, such as accommodation, entertainment, communications, and transportation. The results also showed that the return to the destination is affected by nature and determined by several factors such as age, gender, use of a specific vehicle, and proximity. Therefore, the destination’s attractiveness is not based on the elements assigned to tourism strategies; this indicates the gap in local potential and tourism development.
The objectives of this paper are to analyze the urban growth and urbanization phenomenon in Algeria. Two processes that originated respectively by the expansion of existing urban areas and the process of urbanization that took place between 1954 and 2008, a period marked by significant economic, social and political changes in Algerian society. Our analysis was mainly based on the Algerian general census of population and habitat (2008) and on the application of rank-size distribution of cities according to Zipf’s rule. This study revealed that in Algeria, the urban system is particularly marked by the dramatic expansion of small cities. Indeed, the development of small towns, through the transition from rural to urban and the residential loosening of large cities have influenced the trend towards the balance of the urban system in Algeria. Results revealed also how the "primatial" city is undergoing profound economic and social changes at the national level. These changes are most often imposed from the top as part of land-use planning policy. This study provides some insights into the demographic dynamics of cities and the evolution of urban hierarchies in Algeria, through the comparison of the different rank-size distributions of Algerian cities in space and time. Our results suggest that land-use planning strategies are the only policies capable of influencing the future of the Algerian urban system.
This study aims at understanding the role of civil society institutions and their initiatives in the preservation of urban heritage in Algeria. In fact, Algeria’s urban heritage is subject to a serious deterioration in several benchmarks that are affected by several issues threatening the balance of its social and economic development. Moreover, given the importance of preserving heritage areas due to their national wealth and the historical, cultural, economic and social values they represent, and the general trend towards the growth of the tourism industry and its economic benefits, it is increasingly urgent to find a balance between the protection of urban heritage and the tourism development. The main principles of sustainable tourism development are the involvement of civil society institutions and the local population in the development process by raising awareness, engaging the local inhabitants in tourism activities and providing sustainable tourism projects that generate incomes. Indeed, volunteering social work is one of the most important development factors in today's societies. To conduct this study, first the urban heritage situation in Dashrat Manaa was anlayzed, and then conducted a field survey in form of a questionnaire. The authors of the study performed a statistical analysis of the collected data and interpreted the results.
