Psoralea corylifolia Linn. belonging to Fabaceae family is an important endangered plant that has been therapeutically used to treat different pathological manifestations since ages. It is commonly known as Bakuchi in Sanskrit. Though it is an important plant, till date, no pharmacognostical reports have been available on its seed. A lot of adulterations are also present in the market. The present study is aimed towards evaluating pharmacognostical and histochemical characteristics of the seeds of P.corylifolia Linn. in detail. Macroscopic and microscopic pharmacognostical characters of seeds and histochemical studies were noted by following standard methods. Pharmacognostical evaluation of seed shows the presence of volatile oil, silica deposits and stone cells. The observations found in current work can be considered as reference standards in future studies.
is an elaborate branch that deals with Ayurvedic pharmaceuticals comprising of herbal, mineral and plant origin. Arsenicals, a group of minerals listed in Schedule E (1) of Drugs and Cosmetics Rules 1945, have been widely used in the Ayur vedic fraternity since long for the treatment of various diseases. Haratala, a component of arsenicals has mostly been used after certain purification and potentiating. It has been used for treating a number of diseases like Jwara (fever), Kustha (skin disorders), Netra Roga (ophthalmic diseases) etc. This present review has compiled the formulations containing Haratala from Bhaisajya Ratnavali along with the percentage in each formulation. The percent of Haratala used per dose has also been mentioned. Total 156 formulations contained Haratala. Out of these, maximum formulations (41) were used in the treatment of Jwara. The present work has been done to view the broad spectrum of therapeutic potentialities of Haratala and will be helpfu l in comprehending its contribution in the treatment of diverse diseases.
Holistic considerations and personalized dietary planning constitute the basic features of the Ayurvedic concept of nutrition, which will provide optimal health and disease prevention. Nutraceuticals is a connecting link where both the system of medicine should shake their hand with enduring hardcore research and mutual acceptance of both the systems. Nutraceuticals are all about the nutritional fulfilment of the body requirement. There are many reasons for nutritional deficiencies which lead to ailments and degenerative processes. Nutraceutical products provide nutritional supplement which alleviate the symptoms and prevent from further degeneration. Methods: A cross-sectional study was planned to collect information regarding Ayurveda nutraceuticals available in the market of Kathmandu Valley. The electronic databases like Google scholar, Cochrane library, Pubmed, Scopus, Web science, Science direct, Research gate etc. were searched for published articles. Libraries of universities or departments of different ministries and websites and publications of different departments of government of Nepal, ancient/Ayurvedic literatures were searched for relevant literature. Scope: This work may be considered as a potential source for generating data on the current status of Ayurvedic nutraceuticals in Nepal. Some recommendations have also been put forward to strengthen the field of Ayurvedic nutraceuticals in Nepal.
Background: Oral health is an integral part of individual health. Maintenance of oral health can be advised by practitioners of different specialities. Ayurveda practitioners can play a pivotal role in this aspect. Aims and objectives: The aim of the present study is to find out about the awareness on oral hygiene among Ayurveda practitioners. Methods: A cross-sectional observational questionnaire was distributed to 100 Ayurveda practitioners. Ayurveda practitioners having at least an undergraduate degree and voluntary participation were the inclusion criteria to be a part of this convenience sampling. Results and conclusion: Among the practitioners approached, 80% agreed that brushing of teeth should be prescribed twice a day. Maximum participants stated that herbal mouthwashes show anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and immunomodulatory effects. Majority of respondents stated that they prescribed brushing, tongue scraping and oil pulling. These methods have been an integral part of daily regimen in Ayurveda. The study shows that Ayurvedic practitioners have substantial amount of knowledge regarding oral hygiene and advised the patients regularly about their oral health. The study can prove as a helpful tool in future works and shows that an integrated approach might be a better method in minimizing oral healthcare problems.
