RÉSUMÉLe vieillissement de la population amène la société québécoise à s'interroger sur ia prise en charge des personnes en perte d'autonomie. Elle est assurée par une pluralité d'acteurs : les établissements publics, les entreprises privées, les organismes communautaires, les entreprises d'économie sociale en aide domestique (EESAD) et la famille. Dans tous ces secteurs, les femmes occupent une place prépondérante. Les soins et la prise en charge des personnes dépendantes sont associés aux prétendues qualités « naturelles » des femmes. Les EESAD jouent un rôle de plus en plus important dans les services à domicile destinés aux personnes âgées. Lors de leur création, elles ne prodiguaient que de l'assistance domestique (entretien ménager) alors que maintenant, certaines d'entrés elles offrent des services d'assistance à la vie quotidienne (bains, déplacements, etc.). Cet élargissement du panier de services des EESAD nous amène à nous interroger sur les effets qu'il aura sur les conditions de travail des femmes. Il faut en effet se rappeler que suite à la professionnalisation du métier d'auxiliaire familiale et sociale (années 1970), ces soins étaient offerts par des travailleuses profitant de meilleures conditions que celles offertes aux préposées travaillant dans les EESAD. Nous nous demandons donc dans cette recherche, quels sont les effets de l'élargissement du panier de services sur les conditions de travail des préposées? Et, est-ce que cet élargissement vient renforcer la division sexuelle du travail?Notre recherche se fonde sur les théories des rapports sociaux de sexe et plus précisément sur celle de la division sexuelle du travail. La division sexuelle du travail répartit les tâches entre les hommes et les femmes dans les différentes sociétés. Malgré que les tâches associées aux hommes et aux femmes ne soient pas toujours les mêmes, il appert que dans toute société il y ait une division du travail selon le sexe. Le travail d'entretien domestique et d'entretien de la vie fut historiquement réalisé par les femmes, et cela dans la gratuité et l'invisibilité du foyer. Cette division sexuelle du travail dans le foyer se répercute aussi sur l'emploi et amène les femmes à travailler dans le secteur des services, entre autres, dans celui de la santé. Secteurs où sont sollicitées les compétences relationnelles attribuées aux qualités dites « féminines ».Pour répondre à nos questionnements sur les effets de l'élargissement du panier de services sur les conditions de travail des femmes, nous avons réalisé une recherche à partir de la stratégie de l'étude de cas. Le cas étudié implique la Coopérative de solidarité de services à domicile du Royaume (CSSDR). Dans le contexte de la reconfiguration du système de santé et de services sociaux québécois, la place qu’occupe le tiers secteur dans la réponse aux besoins des populations est de plus en plus grande. Dans le secteur du soutien à domicile, les centres de santé et de services sociaux (CSSS) sont appelés à établir des partenariats avec les entreprises d’économie sociale en aide domestique (EESAD). Ces partenariats ont été accentués par les lois 25 (2003) et 83 (2005). De plus, le cadre dans lequel ils se déroulent a été transformé. La forme que prendront ces partenariats fixe plusieurs enjeux pour l’économie sociale. Dans cet article, à partir de l’étude d’un cas au Saguenay, nous nous demandons si, dans le cadre de la reconfiguration du système de santé et de services sociaux, les relations entre l’État et les EESAD empruntent le modèle de l’économie marchande et ne participent pas ainsi à l’élargissement de la démocratisation de l’espace public.
