This paper demonstrates a compact‐size folded slot‐based antenna suitable for internet‐of‐things (IoT) applications. The antenna is composed of a folded structure meandered slot loaded with varactor diode. The novel combination of the slot and varactor diode, reactively loading the slot, lead to highly miniaturized antenna. The presented antenna operates in dual frequency bands: from 730 to 965 MHz and 1250 to 1940 MHz. Continuous frequency sweep over the two bands is achieved by the use of a single varactor diode. Due to antenna compact size, it is highly suitable for 5G IoT applications. The total board dimensions of the proposed design are 27 mm × 27 mm.
A slot-based miniaturized antenna design for CubeSat applications that operate in ultra high frequency (UHF) band is presented. The proposed antenna design consists of a frequency reconfigurable (FR) slot-based antenna integrated on a Rogers RO4350 substrate. The frequency range covered by the FR antenna is 300-450 MHz. A single varactor diode is used to sweep the frequency of the design. The proposed meandered loop-slot antenna design is small in size and has planar geometry with overall substrate dimensions of 100 × 100 mm 2 . The proposed downsized antenna with frequency reconfigurability is ideally suited for small satellite applications in the UHF band, especially CubeSats.
