Die Verfasser untersuchten die spontane Adsorption von Sauerstoff an Platin aus wäßrigen Elektrolyten in Abhängigkeit von der Zeit und bei verschiedenen PH− Werten sowie Temperaturen (25, 5 und 75° C) mit Hilfe kathodischer Ladungskurven, die galvanostatisch ermittelt wurden. Die Analyse der Kurven erforderte die Bestimmung der Doppelschichtkapazität bei verschiedenen PH−Werten und die Ermittlung des Rauhigkeitsfaktors der Platinoberfläche. Die Analyse dieser Gleichung führt zu einer ziemlich hohen scheinbaren Aktivierungswärme, woraus zu schließen ist, daß es sich um eine dissoziative Chemisorption von Sauerstoffatomen handelt. Der Kurvenverlauf deutet darauf hin, daß die Doppelschicht im neutralen Bereich Wassermoleküle aufnimmt, im alkalischen und sauren Bereich hingegen OH−‐Ionen. Versuche mit rotierender Scheibenelektrode ergaben keine lineare Beziehung zwischen Quadratwurzel der Winkelgeschwindigkeit. Diese Feststellung ermöglicht den Schluß, daß die Adsorption von Sauerstoff in gerührten Systemen nicht ausschließlich diffusionskontrolliert ist.
