Background and Objectives: Pleomorphic adenoma, being the most common benign tumors of salivary gland, is morphologically characterized by a biphasic pattern containing the epithelial and mesenchymal components. The modified myoepithelial cells present are thought to play an important role in its histologic diversity by the formation of extracellular matrix. The aim of the present study was to observe, compare and correlate the histomorphological diversity of epithelial and stromal components along with different morphological cell types of modified myoepithelial cells. Materials and Method: Histomorphological features were compared in twenty cases of pleomorphic adenoma of major salivary glands and twenty cases of minor salivary glands using hematoxylin and eosin stains. The features were analyzed by observing under the light microscope. Results: Statistical analysis showed significance of plasmacytoid cells, and squamous metaplasia was extensive with formation of keratin cyst-like structure resembling cystic pleomorphic adenoma, in minor salivary gland tumors. Conclusion: Plasmacytoid cells, squamous cells and areas of hyalinization were observed predominantly in major salivary gland tumors compared to minor salivary glands. Keratin pearls were predominant in minor salivary gland tumors.

Background: A dentigerous cyst or follicular cyst is one of the forms of odontogenic cysts. It encloses the crown of an un-erupted tooth by the expansion of its follicle within the follicular space. It is normally painlessly discovered during the routine radiographic examination. Importance of keratinization in odontogenic cysts is still a mystery as it is a very rare entity. This article reports a case of keratinizing dentigerous cyst associated with a mandible. Case Presentation: A 50-year-old male patient with a chief complaint of swelling and pain in the right side of the lower jaw for 4 months. The lesion was provisionally diagnosed as OKC or dentigerous cyst after the clinical and radiographic examination. Treatment consisted of surgical excision and the excised specimen was sent for histopathological examination which confirmed the findings of a keratinizing dentigerous cyst. Conclusions: Only a few cases of keratinizing dentigerous cyst has been reported in the literature so far to the best of our knowledge. Early recognition and intervention play a key role in its management due to its malignant transformation and potential for recurrence.

Odontogenic cysts are considered as non-neoplastic benign lesions. Odontogenic keratocyst is a cystic lesion of tooth origin with an intrusive clinical behavior involving an elevated recurrence rate. It has been renamed to keratocystic odontogenic tumor (KCOT), as it explains its tumor nature which is distinguished by stratified squamous epithelium with parakeratinization and a prospective for destruction, impregnating behavior, and for the possibility for malignant transformation in the wall of the lesion. Histologic examination is necessary for diagnosis as the clinician find it difficult to manage the lesion since the true nature of the lesion is not revealed. This article is an attempt to extend an outline of a diverse strand of KCOT.

Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) with myelofibrosis having intraoral manifestations as ecchymosis, unprompted gingival bleeding, and generalized gingival overgrowth with associated periodontal disease is one of the rare cases. MDS is a clonal disorder of pluripotent hematopoietic stem cells. Myelofibrosis is a disorder where normal bone marrow is replaced with a fibrous scar tissue. It is a complication of MDS. Here, we are discussing a rare case report of MDS with myelofibrosis manifesting as intraoral ecchymosis. MDS with myelofibrosis is aggressive disorder of elderly whose pathophysiology remains unknown with a poor prognosis. When myelofibrosis is observed in a bone marrow specimen, further investigation of the patient with respect to splenomegaly, leukocyte count, peripheral blood smear and bone marrow findings, and karyotype will serve as a guide to correct diagnosis.
