RESUMO -No decorrer dos anos o Brasil tem buscado diversas alternativas para a obtenção do etanol, para suprir a crescente demanda interna e externa pelo produto. Neste contexto, na busca por alternativas que possam ser incorporadas à produção deste biocombustível obtido a partir da cana-de-açúcar, destaca-se o milho, o qual tem a possibilidade de ser cultivado em locais de renovação de canaviais e serem processados na entressafra da cana. Embora essa tecnologia esteja em utilização no país, o setor ainda carece de algumas informações, como o tempo ideal de cozimento. Com isso, o objetivo deste trabalho foi de avaliar as características dos mostos de milho com granulometria de 2,36mm, submetidos a diferentes tempos cozimento. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi inteiramente casualizado, com três tratamentos e três repetições. Os grãos foram triturados até granulometria de 2,36mm e misturados com água na proporção 200g/L. A seguir foram submetidos aos tempos de cozimento de 60, 90 e 180 minutos. As pastas foram resfriadas até 80-90˚C, e mantidas sob agitação constante. Nessa etapa adicionou-se a enzima α-amilase. As pastas foram peneiradas e submetidas às análises de Brix, Açúcares Redutores Totais, Amido e pH. Observou-se que quanto maior o tempo de cozimento, maior a concentração de açúcares e amido na pasta. Entretanto essas podem ser decorrentes da concentração resultante da evaporação de água. Portanto, conclui-se que o tempo de 60 minutos é recomendado para extrair açúcares do milho. INTRODUÇÃOCom a crescente demanda por matrizes energéticas mais sustentáveis, diversos países têm aderido à substituição parcial de combustíveis fósseis ou pela complementação das fontes energéticas anteriores através de alternativas que acompanhem a crescente demanda por fontes renováveis de energia.Dentre essas alternativas, o etanol tem sido amplamente produzido e associado à matriz energética dos países, podendo destacar o Brasil e Estados Unidos como grandes produtores, consumidores e exportadores do biocombustível, utilizando-o a mais de 40 anos como complemento a gasolina em veículos leves. Deve-se destacar que o Brasil é pioneiro na produção de etanol através da cultura da cana-de-açúcar, produzindo o etanol anidro para misturar à gasolina na proporção de 27% (AMATO; MATOSO, 2015) ou etanol hidratado na queima direta em motores de combustão interna.
RESUMO -Atualmente, o setor sucroenergético busca novas matérias-primas que possam complementar a produção de etanol no Brasil. Entre essas, pode-se destacar o milho, que vem sendo utilizado em estados como Mato Grosso e Goiás em usinas dedicadas, ou ainda em "usinas flex", que compartilham o processamento de cana-de-açúcar e milho. Entretanto, ainda faltam informações que possam otimizar o processo, resultariam em aumento de rendimento industrial. Entre essas, cabe destacar a granulometria ideal que o grão deve apresentar antes de ser submetido ao processo de cozimento. Desta maneira, o objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar a extração dos açúcares presentes no milho triturado em diferentes granulometrias. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado com 4 tratamentos e 3 repetições. Os tratamentos foram constituídos pelas granulometrias de 0,6, 1,18 e 2,36mm, além de fubá (granulometria inferior a 0,6mm). O grão foi misturado a água destilada na proporção e 200g/L, sendo posteriormente submetido a cozimento por 90 minutos. A seguir, foi resfriado a 80-90˚C, adicionando-se a enzima α-amilase, mantendo a pasta em agitação por 30 minutos. A pasta foi peneirada e caracterizada quanto ao Brix, pH, Açúcares Redutores Totais (ART) e Amido. Observou-se Brix entre 14 e 18,4%, Amido de 0,01 a 0,63%, ART entre 11 e 17% e pH de 5,9 a 6,3. Conclui-se que a granulometria de 0,6mm é a mais eficaz para extração dos açúcares do milho. INTRODUÇÃOO etanol atualmente é a matriz energética que mais cresce mundialmente, devido seu baixo custo de produção quando comparado às outras fontes, e principalmente por causa das questões ambientais como a busca por reduções na emissão de gases poluentes. No Brasil, a perspectiva é o aumento constante do etanol, impulsionado pelo aumento no uso de veículos automotivos leves "flex-fuel", além do incremento em mistura com a gasolina e da produção de biodiesel, que utiliza deste no processo de transesterificação (MENDONÇA, 2010;FERREIRA, 2015).Nos últimos dez anos o setor sucroenergético no Brasil, passou por grandes transformações tanto tecnológicas quanto agrícolas, tais como: a expansão da cultura de cana para regiões diferentes das tradicionais, programas de melhoramento genético da cana-deaçúcar, substituição do corte manual pelo mecanizado com a consequente extinção da queima. Neste sentido, cabe destacar ainda as novas matérias-primas destinadas a produção de etanol, tais como o bagaço de cana hidrolisado (etanol de 2 a geração), sorgo sacarino e, mais
